Lisa's poem

Post by Fist and Faith »

Proud daddy time! :D Lisa is 10, 5th grade. Her teacher gave the class an in-class assignment. She says that, if she hadn't given it to them unannounced, and watched them all do it in the 40-minute time limit, she'd have assumed a bit of cheating. I'm still not sure she didn't manage to cheat somehow or other. Hehe. I posted one poem here years ago. I've never claimed to have any talent in that area, and it shows. A fun, silly little poem. Lisa's already better than me. :D

So, they had to pick a color, and describe it.

White...
...is the color of a lovely dress on a bride just about to get married.
...is born as my soul inside me ready to face the world.
...feels like the cold snow on a wonderful winter day.
...looks like a beautiful diamond on an engagement ring.
...tastes like vanilla frosting on a delicious cupcake.
...makes me feel happy when it falls from the sky on a cold winter day.
...is mad when it is on a hailstone falling from the sky.
...smells like a Lilly of the Valley that just blossomed on a spring day.
...lives in the Arctic as a baby polar bear with her mom.
...is sad when it melts away because of Spring.
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
-Paul Simon

...wow...

Her Daddy is an inspiration to her, I do believe.

Thanks for sharing, Fist.

The inner beauty of children never ceases to amaze me. What a glorious poem, Eric. She is her father's daughter. :D :D
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~fly fly little wing, fly where only angels sing~

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

*bump* because of relevance to a conversation in the Close. =)
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."
-Elisabeth Elliot, Preface, "A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael"

Has she written anymore?
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

10?!

8O

I seem to remember when I was 10 I was writing stories about Egyptian mummies, inspired by that paragon of literature, RL Stine's "Goosebumps" series.
