James Lee Burke

you know i have never asked anyone if they've read this guy here. and i've been reading him again lately. he's had a pretty long career (fitful start, first published by a university press i believe) but i really dig him and wondered if there are any other JLB readers here at the watch.

if you do read him, has anyone read the latest in the Dave Robicheaux series? The Glass Rainbow.

if so, got any thoughts about it?

i recently caught up in the series and read the two most recent, Swan Peak and The Glass Rainbow.

the man is just a poet of a storyteller, in much the same way as Conroy in Prince of Tides. a bit grittier tho. 8) (i often think of reading conroy at your urging, Avatar, whenever i read james lee burke)here's an excerpt from Swan Peak that i'd been wanting to share with someone who'd appreciate it. i picked youse guys here cause i know
someone of you here will. :D
'The last I heard, both of them were going down for at least twenty-five years. But who cares? As players in the building and the deconstruction of empires, they're merely ciphers. Jefferson in his letters to John
Adams foretold their advent long ago. Perhaps the greater problem is their constituency. A confidence man chooses ony one kind of person as his victim--someone who, of his own volition, invites deception into his life. Eventually we catch on to charlatans and manipulators and ostracize or lock them away. But unlike the fifth act of an Elizabethan tragedy, order is seldom reimposed on the world. The faces of the actors may change, but the story is ongoing, and neither religion nor government has ever rid the world of sin or snake oil.'

~Swan Peak, James Lee Burke

I'm intrigued. I'll have to look him up. Is there any particular reason he uses Founding Fathers' names for his main characters?
