Jaz -- hang in there. At least it's a job....
The donut place was amazing. They had about 24 varieties of donuts, in flavors the Dunkin people have never dreamed of: among them, Nutty Buddy, turtle, Dreamsicle, and blueberry pancake breakfast (with maple-flavored frosting and crumbled bacon on the top).

All of Oz is going to fall in love with you Sea...you'll be a star, you can't avoid it.
Yeah Jaz there's a lot of people out the right now without any, whatsoever.
The back of the house is almost totally repainted and the new deck is almost totally stained. Garden survived the frost, roses and EVERYTHING's looking really good. My hand's all beat up from crashing into the fence while playing tennis two days ago and my abs are twisted, I can barely walk and my ankles are killing me from playing three sets yesterday. I sweated out enough salt to make a salt lick-seriously overdid it a bit. Only now finally hydrated, whew!

I'd forgotten how much like hard work it is disassembling and rebuilding a computer. But much unplugging and plugging was done, the requisite blood sacrifices were made, and my PC is now housed inside a new case with a 500W power supply and an upgraded graphics card, rather than the really cramped and virtually unupgradable box it originally came in.
There was a minor error in that I didn't consider the size of my desk when buying the new box, but I can live with it hanging out the front side slightly...

Whew...where did the year go? Getting ready for finals then it's home to the Mountain. Got a wedding to plan this summer.

For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,

Thank you, thank you, thank God for you

Keep dreaming, Sea, and keep reaching for the stars!Seareach wrote:And, yes, I really did say that bit at the bottom. Thought I should give some kind of wishy-washy comment but I think I went overboard!!

It's an awesome story, nonetheless.
Jaz...the thing with having a job is that it makes it a bit easy to find another job while you are employed as opposed to not. It's kind of like us guys experience when we are already dating someone, and there ends up being considerably more options for dating until you are no longer dating that someone. Suddenly those options disappear. Hang in there, and apply elsewhere.

Next time you come to Portland, you've got to try Voodoo Donuts. The combinations will blow your mindaliantha wrote: The donut place was amazing. (Although everyone talks about their bacon maple bar, my personal favorite is the banana fritter with peanut butter on top)

You make it as far a Portland, ali, and you had better extend your trip to Seattle. Top Pot doughnuts may not be as innovative as Voodoo's (which really are excellent, BTW!), but they are plenty good.

I think Colorado (maybe not Denver, but the Rockies for sure) could give either of your haunts a run for their money in the "blue sky" department. And there's something indefinable in the light near any coast -- I noticed it in Virginia Beach when we returned after being away for awhile. But sure, whatever y'all think is right.
SD, if you'd been on the Watch in 2002 when the girls and I made our grand tour of Oregon and Washington, we would have definitely stopped by.
(Coulda met Furls then, too...
) We took Amtrak from DC all the way to Portland, then drove to Crater Lake (with a brief dip into California, just to say we'd been there
), up to Bend, across to the ocean (Nehalem Bay), back to Portland, then up to Mt. St. Helens and Seattle, where we stayed for a couple of days (ex-bro-in-law and family lived in Issaquah then) and flew home. That was a fun trip.

And let me know what you think of the Susanna Clarke when you get there. Is that one before or after Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell?
