I wanted to share this photo SD and I saw on a marquee of a theater on Central Ave after breakfast at the Flying Star Saturday morning. SD's phone probably took a better picture, but I figure the Watcher we both instantly thought of when we saw it will appreciate even this poor shot.

It looks like the run was over by the time we arrived in Albuquerque, but we thought it was interesting nonetheless.

Thanks Menolly. That doco had a single screening in an arthouse cinema here a couple of months ago, but events conspired against me getting to see it. Apparently it's quite the treasure trove for Hicks geeks. I'm eagerly awaiting the DVD release.

Everyone: we had an absolute blast Saturday night at the Cooperage! So sorry we missed out on all the non-Saturday-night festivities, but my mom was waiting in Tesuque for us to visit on Sunday, and as to post-Cooperage fun ... well, let's just say that a 4:45 AM start from Alabama on Saturday morning knocked us out for the count. It was absolutely amazing to finally put faces to handles.

Jenn, are those elk the ones we saw running across the ridge when we were leaving, or the ones that were in the basin that looked like little pinpricks? (Y'all should see how *vast* this place is.)

It was *so* hard to leave last night, despite the fact that I was headed out on part II of my vacation. Fist, you said it exactly right up above -- Watchers are the absolute best, period.

Thanks again to danlo, Lady Tam and Jenn for all their excellent work in pulling together another fabulous Fest.

Those were the elk from the edge as we left Andelain. I could zoom in on them but I just liked the image so I posted it as I saw it through the lens.

I don't know what I can say that hasn't been said already. E Fest is magical, and I'm always amazed at how kind, generous, brilliant, hilarious and dirrty you all are (not always in that order.) I'm happy to be going home, but I'm sad that that means leaving all of you behind.
Of course while The Dinner is always the focus of the event, I'd still come if all we did was hang out in Tom and Leslie's yard for a weekend. I'm so happy I was able to attend and want to (again) give my very, very grateful thanks to those of you who helped me out. I can't wait for the next meet-up and hope to continue the Watcher's trend of generosity, but next time from the other side of the fence (to get Sea here!!!)

I love you all so much and look forward to when next we meet.

Fear and Loathing In Albuquerque
We were somewhere around "historic" Las Vegas, NM in the throes of the desert when the Mountain Dew began to take hold. No rest stops or eateries for miles before. We stopped and had our Burger Lord meal and I realized I should take care of my bladder before moving on. There was a keypunch on the door for the men's room.
The hired help at the BL were a sour and dour bunch, and instead of peeing on their doorstep, I asked for their code. When returning to Bossk, my companion on this trip and the person who has tolerated me longer than anyone outside of family, I let him know of the code situation. He went into the ladies restroom which didn't have a keycode on it, and overhead a drug deal coming from the next stall over.
We pulled on in from the interstate into Albuquerque, found our hotel and dropped our stuff, ready to run over to Danlo's for some BBQ goodness. We expected to find alcoholic libations on the way, but after arriving, Danlo pointed us to the Burger Paradise just past the Chrysler On A Stick. Some young emo sold us some liquor handing back the IDs the wrong way around. "White guys with beards all look the same to me," he said.
After returning to the BBQ, we met a couple of foreigners and several people that should be ashamed of themselves. We tossed back the well deserved drinks in quick succession to loosen our tongues and prepare us for the debauchery ahead.

(part 2 coming soon)

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful time at Elohimfest. I'd heard of this gathering and long wondered what it would be like to attend, and can safely say it exceeded every expectation I had. I'm already looking forward to the next one, and this time, I'm staying the whole week.

Thanks so much for the kind hospitality! So lovely to meet (and make) so many new friends.
Are you a storyteller, Thomas Covenant?

I was, once.

And you gave it up? Ah, that is as sad a tale in three words as any you might have told me. But a life without a tale is like a sea without salt. How do you live?

I live.

Another? In two words, a story sadder than the first. Say no more -- with one word you will make me weep.

SRD was so eloquent and gracious. Having the company of such fine and warm people was the only thing that kept me from turning to jelly, or rather turning to jelly moreso. The only thing better than having the opportunity to be in that man's presence was to be able to share that with so many delightful, thoughtful and good hearted people.
Ditto the thanks for SRD. In his place I doubt I could have been so sharing and moving to so many people.
I've thanked them many times, but I can't thank Danlo and Lady Tam enough for opening their home to us and making all of this possible.
Conversations on Kevin's Watch, already a highlight of each day, shall certainly mean more after having looked into the eyes of so many friends and heard their voices.

I'll be there...I'll swim if I have to. With 3 years to save one would think I might have a chance (although I just announced my intentions to Mr Seareach and then we had a fight...and that's only one of the sticklers...I'll work on the other one over the next 3 years!!).

I know I am writing about events out of order but todays events went as such:

The remaining watchers trickled in to Danlo's house with the exception of Creator and Lucimay. Damelon and Waddley stayed behind so that Damelon could take Wadds to the airport and catch his train so I had to say my TTFN's to the both of them at that time. Lorin wasn't feeling well so she opted out on the morning activity of taking the cable tram up the Sandia mountains. Lore, Orlion, Menolly, SavorDam, myself, Lady Tam, Danlo and Grace hit the slope. We carpooled up and it was a gorgeous drive but nothing compared to the cable car ride up the mountain. We got to the top and wandered around taking pictures. Lore kept leaning out and taking pics which left his underwear showing out the top of his pants and I missed EVERY stinking opportunity and some by split seconds to get a shot of his butt with undies showing. I hate it when the fates are against me for photo ops, anyway I digress. We did take a ton of gorgeous photos on the top of the mountain but I need to weed through them before I post them and I am not sure I will have energy after writing this. We then boarded the car headed down the mountain and I made them all stay in the front of the car pointing down for the best pics. The conversation was as always highly intellectual and serious. The funniest moment of which was when Grace told Lore he had something pink on his lip. It turned out to be a bit of chapstick and she grilled him about why he had chapstick and I butted in saying it was to keep his lips soft for kissing all the girls. He responded with, "And they are lining up to kiss me." and Grace's response was, "Ew." Lore's ego was wounded.

We then arrived at the cable car station and proceeded into the gift shop so that Lore could get a gift for his mom. I bought myself a really cool leather, bone and beaded Native American choker style necklace that Orlion helped me pick out and while wandering through to the checkout line I happened upon a gorgeous hand carved wooden wolf so I got it for Lore and surprised him with it at the restaurant later. I also got a prezzie for Sgt. Null so SARGE, PM me your street address so I can mail it to you. We then got to the restaurant and I was seated between Lore and Orlion. I must have missed something really funny from previous in the fest but got the gist of it from them joking and then Lore cracked me up so bad that I was squirting tears and wheezing for breath. Orlion was cracking me up too because Grace was on the other side of him and demanding he play with her and at one point she was explaining rules to him and he was deliberately misunderstanding her and asked her why she would use her powers for evil. It was very funny. Lorin met us for lunch and she had bought some gorgeous earrings so we were both sporting our new accent pieces. Lore is the quintessential gentleman as he immediately noticed both changes in my necklace and Lorin's earrings and complimented us on them. Take notes guys, girls love that stuff. Anyway, after the lunch, Orlion and I were slated for airport delivery so he and I said our TTFN's to Lorin, Lore, Menolly and SavorDam. I gave several hugs to Lore and at the very last I smooched him through the rolled down car window which prompted Grace to say EW! again and apparently disoriented Lore as he headed in the polar opposite direction to get in the car with Lorin. What Lore missed is me telling Grace that his lips were indeed soft for kissing the girls. I explained to Danlo and Lady Tam and they got a good laugh out of the whole thing as well. We then headed back to casa Danlo where I gathered my stuff, said my TTFN's to Leslie and Grace and then hit the airport. Once there I said my TTFN's to Danlo and Orlion and then ended up meeting up again with Orlion once checked in so we got to say goodbye a few times. I found my gate, was waiting and then the madness started with flight crap. I was so physically and emotionally tired to begin with that I let the flight crap frustrate me and seriously I cried for about an hour straight. It's hard to say TTFN's to so many people you love in so short a time. I wouldn't change a bit of it though because it was easily worth every tear and many many more.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
