Steve Buscemi

Post by sgt.null »

Steve is my favorite actor - and my favorite director.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Buscemi

like most people i first found Steve by way of Reservoir Dogs. his Mr.Pink was mesmerizing.

i quickly found him in Fargo - as Carl, the most hapless of kidnappers, who comes to a memorable ending.

even in mainstream movies he made a memorable impression. Con Air brought us Garland Greene. his scene at the pool proved most uncomfortable. he also nailed Rockhound in Armageddon, bringing much needed comic relief.

then i discovered his directing. first with Trees Lounge, my second favorite movie of all time. this film would also help me discover Rockets Red Glare and Mark Boone jr.

Animal Factory is laso in my top ten. and certainly the best prison movie i have ever seen. written by Edward Bunker who was also in Resevoir Dogs.

and I will admit I never thought anything would beat Trees Lounge but along came the terribly underated 13 Moons.

I would love to talk about any and/or all of his movies, tv shows, whatever.

I remember thinking when I saw Buscemi in Fargo, 'Hey, that's the guy from Billy Madison.'
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

he met Adam Sandler on tapeheads - an underated, low-key comedy. I believe he has been in all of Adam's self produced comdies ever since.

Didja mean Tapeheads or Airheads? I enjoyed the hell out of both, although I think Tapeheads is definitely superior. And I know Cail would agree.
But Airheads does have the fantastic Lemmy cameo.

Thought he was great in Boardwalk Empire.

Is there a second series of this being made?

I've seen Trees Lounge. I thought it was good, and was impressed with his directorial debut, but I'll be damned if I remember much about it now. I definitely wasn't blown away by it.

yup, one of my fave actors too.

Done his fair share of Coen brothers films; great in Fargo as was mentioned, plays the oppressed Donny in the Big Lebowski, and has smaller roles in the Hudsucker Proxy, Millers Crossing and Barton Fink.

One of my favourite roles of Buscemi's is in Ghost World, playing obsessive collector Seymour, he is just superb in that movie, and the movie itself is great too ..

Don't forget The Sopranos both as an actor, but also he directed a whole heap (IIRC).

I too liked Rockhound !

Ghost World was excellent.

in Trees he made a seedy world believable and compelling. and his casting is always excellent.
