Menolly: Welcome to the other side of the road, Chicken. Be Well Come and True.

Rusmeister: The fact that there is an entire thread devoted to relative interpretations of the chicken crossed the road joke shows that none of you, in fact, care about the truth of whether or not the chicken actually crossed the road. If we do not know that truth, this entire thread- indeed, life itself- is meaningless. To quote Chesterton....

Fist and Faith: That's typically arrogant of you, Rus. You never stop to consider whether the chicken, and the road, and the crossing, might mean different thigns for different people. You're so caught up walking down the straight and narrow line of your road, that you can't see that others may have already found the chicken on their side.

Rusmeister: If someone finds a chicken that is not on my road, it is not the true chicken. To quote Chesterton....

Fist and Faith: Does it matter if the chicken is the chicken is true chicken, if that's the chicken someone found on their road? Whose to say if they beheaded, plucked, and roasted their chicken it wouldn't bring them as much happiness as the chicken on your road?

Rusmeister: I am not concerned with happiness. I am concerned with the true chicken. One of the major ills of modern society is that everyone wants to find the best tasting chicken without pausing to consider whether that chicken is in fact the right chicken to eat. To quote Chesterton....

Incorrect, it was to get away from Kenny Rogers

On this side of the Pond, 'Kenny Rogers Roasters' has a significantly different meaning. So the poor chickens not only get roasted they get rogered as well 8O

No wonder they want to get to the other side of the road so badly!

ussusimiel, glad to see you again  Just why didn't you write this?

ussusimiel: The chicken crossed to road to prove the poor quality of the third Chrons and Linden's actions in them. Even the chicken didn't fear crossing the road for good or ill, instead of just sitting there and whining.

sgt. null: [creates an "abc's of why did the chicken cross the road" thread in the Mallory's]

Cameraman Jenn: For me it's about the emotional and developmental journey of the chicken crossing the road, about relating to it. THAT is why I love SRD's writing so much. You can feel the pain of the chicken he writes about, how it grows and develops as it crosses the road. It's also what makes Terry Goodkind's chicken so repugnant to me. Yes, he did really write about them.

Effaeldm: [Looks for a way to drag into the topic by the ears some interesting in Effy's "humble" opinion stories or music, thinks about the emotional journeys in TMNT, Stephen King's novels, Bulychev's books about Alisa, Yngwie Malmsteen's lyrics etc., decides to post this]: chicken crossing the road is as good an excuse to post about one's favorite music and stories as... anything. (not like I'm going to leave the other topic mentioned alone as well, just thinking out an answer )

Not true. The chicken-that-was-not-a-chicken was clearly not a chicken.

Hi Effy, good to see you too

I didn't write about the Chicken-Linden because I wouldn't want to be sued for defamation by PETA

And the chicken crossed the road because there was a copy of AATE on his side :hide:

Aliantha: So, my work computer got replaced yet again but while the workman was there, Travelling Guy called and told me I needed to change all of his travel itinerary because he got held up on his way to the airport by this chicken that was stopped in the road.

Ananda: It was a very pervvy chick and saw some hawt ur-viles on the other side of the road!

Zorm: GIANTS!!! Norse mythology!!! Oh, wait...here's some ancient proof about the motives of, in fact, two such fowls:
Völuspá wrote: Then to the gods crowed Gollinkambi,
He wakes the heroes in Othin's hall;
And beneath the earth does another crow,
The rust-red bird at the bars of Hel.

Thus crossed the road Gollingambi
The pathway to blooded battlefields
The gods counsel, the dwarves debate
And all of Jötunheimr stands aroar
Or did Lord Fowl simply spot some white gold on the other side of the road...
