Awakening of the Trailblazer

Now, I know you guys aren't anime fans, but I thought you might enjoy this.

Awakening of the Trailblazer is a real step forward, or backward, for the Gundam series. Gundam is typically about colony wars and robots fighting robots. This one is, after all that's over with, the various heroes of the series facing a new threat, aliens.

Now, keep in mind that while aliens were once foreshadowed in another gundam series, they have never shown up, alive, in any gundam series I know of until now.

These guys basically seem to be Von Neumann Probes. They are capable of destroying entire planets, and reform anything into their own image - cold, wicked, violent metal shards.

How does it conclude? Not telling, but it's quite remarkable to see a gundam series end in this fashion, usually it's quite a bit different. The final scene is one of the most beautiful I have seen - it is about the love between man and woman, among other things, and I realized when seeing it that I don't care which role I take as long as on the other side, there is love.

Right now it's only in Japan, IIRC, but I suggest taking a look if it ever makes it to the US. For people who don't understand gundam, it offers an excellent, if very very confusing, look into the heart of the series.
