HP Sauce > A1 Sauce???

A few weeks ago, I was at a pub in NYC with some friends, with a primarily british influence.

While there, I tried HP sauce, "the original brown sauce," and decided I liked it a lot more than A1 sauce. Now, I am not a fan of either for a good steak, but I do like steak sauces on occasion. And this sauce, IMO, goes great in eggy and potatoey breakfast food.

(NOTE that one letter before H is G, one letter before P is O. So move HP sauce back a letter and it becomes GO sauce. Coincidence? Eh, probably a marketing gimmick for nerds.)

Since I saw it at whole foods, I bought a bottle. I use it on occasion, I don't think anyone else in the house has used it. I think it's something I like, but not likely to be liked by many.

I'm not sure who had the primarily British influence. Was it the pub in NYC, or your friends?

Publix markets have an expanding British section, and I've seen bottles of HP sauce there. I agree the bottles/packaging is similar to A-1 sauce, but I've asked a couple of kiwi friends about it and have been assured they are quite different.

If I put a sauce on a steak or pork, I pretty much only use Lea & Perrins Worcestershire so I haven't given HP a try. Perhaps I shall do so in future, although I would much rather have the opportunity to try it elsewhere than purchase a full bottle.

...and shouldn't this topic be in The Galley? I would welcome it there.

hhhmmmm..with a primary British influence I would have thought you would have went with a Wor chester shire sauce. Wait a minute,,doesn't HP advertise as a Wor chester shire sauce rather than a straight steak sauce? Maybe its Lea and Perkins that advertises as a Wor Chester Shire Sauce. I agree in usage tho. Potatoes seem the most benefited by a good Wor chester shire sauce.

I can move posts put in forums I am the moderator of, but not bring posts from forums I am not mod of in to those I mod.

Very close to the truth -- but more accurately, yon graciousness leans toward being hungry. Certainly she evidences no hunger to be lean.

Well.,,you've been to New Mex,,Colorado and Arizona too, Calif I assume,,yet you keep returning to the east coast..Far be it for me to tell you to move it, but think of all the traveling expenses you would save on if you already lived out here in the west...yes.

Which reminds me..the english call their wor chester shire sauce, our A1, HP Lea & Perkins,,Steak Sauce..they call it " brown sauce" an appellation I'm glad didn't survive the trip in the Mayflower..My God! So..do the english call ketchup,,red sauce..? ..mustard , yellow sauce? ..mayo, white sauce?

Clearly this is a culinary thread.
The mod of the Galley has stated that the thread is welcome in that forum.
The OP has agreed that he would have put it there had he thought to do so.
The Galley needs the post count more than GenDisc does.

Since horseradish sauce is also white, how do they distinguish between Mayo and horseradish?

..darn Dam! I thought this thread was about intentional ambiguity. Which reminds me..I understand why the english call it brown sauce,,i mean its so much easier to say than wor chester shire sauce.
