Hail, father of Sleipnir, and the mighty companion of the Giant who built the walls of Ásgarðr! I am beyond honored to share thy companionship on my far-flung journeys across the Nine Worlds and beyond!

(Interesting. The ranyhyn can not merely hear calls through time, but are also capable of crossing into altogether different realities. Makes one wonder how many other Jötunn-bred horses are actually ranyhyn in disguise.)

Hello.

I am Lord Foul. Pay no attention to the giant, evil-looking red worm that accompanies me, nor the poison-drool the froths from his maw.

For I am here to request, humbly, a Ranyhyn. I am not hungry nor do wish to eat one (this time). I will treat it will and ride it as well as one incorporeal deity-thing can.

Spitefully,
Lord Foul's Minion-Secretary

Seems like every niche in the great multiverse of existence is inhabited by a number of ranyhyn; perhaps they even select a bunch of pioneers to probe a fantasy realm whenever one is conceived. According to this logic for instance Binky, whom the Death of Discworld rides, represents this puissant species.

And how adaptable to carry a huge variety of creatures: reformed skurj, giants, even liquid (Or did the horse end up eating the Earthblood, according to the first-ever thread?). Wonder whether they have spectral horses for incorporeal beings like Foul?

I congratulate all the happy riders and Ranyhyn for finding each other and wish you enjoyable journeys and seeing many more wonders.

And good luck to Lord Foul with this. Also thank you for joining making the presentations curiouser and curiouser.

hmmm...Either the Ranyhyn are slow to respond, or the Bloodguard have been deemed as no longer worthy....

Patience, First Mark.
Your wait so far has not matched mine.
Six weeks was a long time to wait on the plains with ten fire lizards fluttering about. ;)

While I am in no way discouraging anyone -- especially Bloodguard! -- from presenting themselves to the Mane of the World and Tail of the Sky, many of us in times past would accumulate a record as members before seeking a Ranyhyn. In recent times, there have been several very new members coming here, partly because it was suggested to them, rather than letting them discover that some members had Ranyhyn and then learning for themselves how that came to pass.

I do not speak for Plains of Ra (I'd probably lose beloved Pair O' Docks if I tried!), but perhaps there is a desire for supplicants to prove worthy, either by membership record, finding this thread on their own, or at least a more elaborate request than a simple whistle?

With that said (and lest I be misunderstood to be anti-n00b, which I emphatically am not!), Welcome new members! May you revel in the glory which is the Land!

Thank you for your help Menolly and Savor Dam! :) It's appreciated! (And I only whistled, because that was the way it was always done.) ;)

This thread was down for almost a year before I found it - Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:51 am - Mon May 30, 2011 5:42 pm

My thoughts on this are like that: finding this about the Ranyhyn just because of the pics may be unlikely. It's quite easy to think that is some special status like the admins or moderators, moreover with many forums, games etc having some leftovers of unique occurrances. Those new may well think it's not possible for them anyway.

Yes, I've found the thread fast, but with the help of a combination of circumstances - I had the combination of interest, quite some knowledge of message boards and how some things are found, and luck as well, certainly. The simplest proof it's not too easy is the span of time before my attempt - see above. Thus, I thought it was some good help to point the newcomers to this place immediately.

As for finding this thread as some test, as well as the quality of the actual phrasing - that I believe is for the Ranyhyn themselves to decide upon. (I actually had some suspicion I was going to end up in traumatology after my presentation, but apparently the Ranyhyn think of me better than I do myself)

Technically, First Mark Bannor, you whistles three times when calling to a Ranyhyn who has already chosen to bear you. One usually presents oneself for consideration with a little more humility.

But fear not! It is an honest misunderstanding, and the Ranyhyn are a patient lot. Turelym approaches now. :D

Question, Plains of Ra: What's your Ranyhyn's name? And how did you present yourself? And, well, what does a land mass want with a mystical horse anyway? :P

All I'll say is that I am glad Plains of Ra has a larger fan club of more than one Watcher now. :hearts:

...I do so love this thread, and the previous one before it...

Cambo, I did not present myself, and do not have a Ranyhyn. In a sense, I suppose you could say I have many thousands. But it is more accurate to say I am their home.
