Is *that* what those lyrics were? I confess I could never quite figure them out. Great song, tho.Savor Dam wrote:...and roundabouting sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day in the emerald splendor of Western Washington!Vraith wrote:Wow...that sounds suspiciously like roundabouting.Yes, it has been a gorgeous weekend here. The mountains have definitely come out of the sky; and despite the absence that implies, they are spectacular.
- I spend the day your way
Call it morning driving
Through the sound
In an' out the valley
In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky
And they stand there...

I will now stick my fingers in my ears and shout LALALALALA as loudly as I can.Cameraman Jenn wrote:Yay! Video soon! I hope you guys edited out all the vid of me being all fat and gross on the camera.... Ugh. Need to go on a serious diet and workout regimen and stop slouching. Lucimay, why don't you nag my slouchy self to stand up straight. Yeesh.

Just got tons of stuff from the videographers: presentation and Q & A DVD, flies with tons of quality photos even a spool of side footage-we'll have to edit like we've never edited before. Just attempted to contact Romeo from a bunch of different angles-so once I get these babies burned they're off in the mail.
The raw sound and lighting look surprisingly good and there's no where near as much background noise as I imagined. (if I knew that, I would have enjoyed myself more and stopped playing mother hen

Sarge - The thing I've realized about fire in nature is that it doesn't really destroy the beauty of a place. The plants and animals come back within a relatively quick time frame. It's definitely more problematic for us humans, and in that, I join you in hoping that everyone in the area stays happy, healthy and safe, especially our friends.sgt.null wrote:you guys are in our prayers. i would hate to see all that natural beauty spoiled. i have fallen in love with new mexico. please don't tell new hampshire, vermont, maine and texas.danlo wrote:Unfortunately it's all around--it's on the southwest side and avoiding it (not enough trees in the valley), but it's heading itself down the mountain hard to Los Alamos, which is even scarier...

sorry jonny I haven't received a PM from you...
They've evacuated over 20,000 from Los Alamos-that's, pretty much the whole town and the Labs are shut down. The big mesa south of Andelian (Valles Caldera) is completely on fire. Yes the terrain will recover and be even more beautiful, but the loss of the old growth trees could be tragic.
The ski area at Los Alamos is burning, but I doubt the Labs are in danger at all--the whole place is like a five fingered mesa that drops away into deep stone canyons, and on one side the Rio Grande. The Labs are sort of in the middle and towards the airport so very tree-less and were futher more cleared after the threat of the Cerro fire in 2000. That fire was the result of an idiotic "controled burn" on a very windy day. Now the other "fingers" like the north one that was totally burned in 2000 have tons of houses and trees and could all be fried.
We also have a big fire to the south, a fire on the west mesa near the detention center and the remnants of the Pacheco fire near the Santa Fe ski basin. The majority of these fires are thought to be human caused and speculation is mounting that the Pacheco was purposeful arson. We're so dam dry that many feel some idiot (on the road we were on) simply flicked a cigarette out the window starting the Conchas Mesa fire now threatening Los Alamos.

I was gonna say that I thought I had read that the Los Alamos fire was different from the one in AZ that caused all the haze during E-fest -- and then you confirmed it, danlo, so thanks.

I'm with Aliantha - xeriscaping is the way to go. Danlo did a great job of it at his house. Whenever I get bare spots in the grass in my yard, I throw down clover seed. It takes root like crazy, looks good, smells good, flowers in the summertime and gives the pollinators something to pollinate and spread. Grass is such a ridiculous water hog, and so finicky to boot.

Yeah, Danlo's place looked amazing. Too bad he shot down my idea to put a watcher apartment building in his backyard....

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Imagine how quiet the watch would get if we all moved to a place we could just hang out and talk to one another all the time in person...
