The Last Chronicles before The Last Dark

Post by largo »

If anyone is interested, I wrote a lengthy review of the Last Chronicles as they stand so far here:

Any reactions and criticisms are most welcome.

Thank you for the link, largo.

Just read the entire series of reviews. Very comprehensive and well done. Only intended for those who either have already read the books or have no intention of doing so, since the level of detail you use makes extensive spoilers inevitable.

Need to let it percolate a little before re-reading and perhaps commenting further...but please consider taking part in our chapter-by-chapter dissection of AATE.

Thanks Savor, and yes, I should have mentioned my review is spoiler-filled and intended for those who have read the books. I'll indeed think about the chapter discussions, since this seems to be the only place online for in-depth discussion of the chronicles.

Thank you, largo. I'd rate the books differently though, especially LFB, but certainly everyone has an own opinion and most likely it is mine that is biased. Come think of it I'd most likely give each of the books a 6 out of 5 Image

Thanks again for writing and sharing this.

You're welcome! It's funny about Lord Foul's Bane -- I have such fond nostalgia about it being the first Donaldson novel I read as a teen, but in hindsight, compared to all the other books, I find it rather difficult to wade through. But it was Donaldson's first novel, and rather rough around the edges.

Since the ARC I won in the contest earlier this week arrives tomorrow, I am re-reading largo's summaries of the first three books, as I now do not have time for the Grand ReRead planned for the October TLD release.

Re-reading now. Halfway thru Fatal Revenant. It's still good!

Great Review.....!!! Although i did think some of the scores were a tad harsh..... LFB was one of my favorites for if nothing else setting up the wondrous place that is the Land.....
I have hit myself in the head many times in the attempt to transport myself into an achingly beautiful fantasy land where, despite having mostly just messed around in high school, I'm qualified to be the savior of the entire world.

I'm halfway through The Last Dark right now and it's bloody fantastic. I hope to review within the next week or two and add it to the other three reviews in the link above.
