Movies that make you cry

Post by Worm of Despite »

Yeah, me, believe it or not. I've cried in two movies! Just a little.

The two movies that did it to me:

The Godfather, Part II

The scene near the climax, where Michael (Al Pacino) goes into the funeral room and hugs his brother Fredo (John Cazale) after having earlier condemned him:

Michael: Fredo, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels. I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother I want to know a day in advance so I won't be there. You understand?
Fredo: Mikey...

Just something about seeing them hug--and having seen the movie beforehand and knowing that Michael was still going to order his death.

Braveheart

Campbell: I'm dying. Let me be.
Hamish: No. You're going to live.
Campbell: I've lived long enough to live free. And proud to see you become the man that you are. I'm a happy man.

Maybe its the connection I have with the story. Maybe I could imagine having said hurful things to a well meaning loved one and then have to watch them die. I can't answer if you are a bad person but I suspect I might have reacted without emotion when I was 20 or so.

Yes, very sad. Bad hunter! Poor Bambi scarred for life. I think he grew up to be a serial killdeer jumping in front of cars running along the forest roads causing them to swerve off the road into trees. Bad deer.

Now that I'm fast approaching 40, I find I get choked up far more than I ever have before. I used to try and hide my weakness from my wife and daughter but now the cat is out of the bag. It still takes quite a moment to get much leakage but I'm trying. :-)
