netflix or blockbuster by mail?
i need to choose on saturday - julie will fill it out. so what does everyone think?
we lost our two closest blockbusters so we will need to rent the harry potter series online. julie has suddenly decided she wants to see the series so she can see that lastest when it comes to the theater. and buying the series is not an option.

Blockbuster, as a company, is tanking rapidly. They recently filed for Chapter 11, they're losing customers by the shedload, and they're having to close massive numbers of stores.
Netflix has customers who love it, they're growing at an incredible rate, and they're the second largest subscription service in the country (20M customers versus Comcast's 23M).

The full membership has both formats for about 12 bucks a month. I think playstation has the gizmo. And the gizmo costs about 150.00 from netflix. I love the apps built into the tv though. you can do lots of things with it.sgt.null wrote:damn will have to do mail-in right then. julie had to buy a charger yesterday.lorin wrote:you have to buy the gizmo, or some of the games have it. I used to do 3 at a time, until they started the streaming netflix thingy on my Playstation 3. I do most of my watching on that now (it's great for watching tv series that I've missed), and reduced it to 2 when the guilt over not watching the DVDs set in. Still, there are things you can only get on disk, so I do both.
There are certain movies from Blockbuster that are edited in content (Requem For A Dream for example), so once I realized what a good deal netflix was, I didn't go back to Blockbuster again. So there is one other reason to not do Blockbuster, as much as I mourn not being able to go into a store and pick out what I want to watch. But Redbox seems to be snapping up that market, although I'm never hurting for stuff to watch these days.

Okay, after singing their praises, I just received word today that Netflix is splitting their streaming and DVD by mail subscriptions. It now will no longer be free, and will have to play separately to get streaming and DVD by mail. Essentially, it only raises the monthly fee by a couple of bucks, but it still is irritating. I'm wondering if I should reduce down to 1 at a time on the DVD thing. Blah.
