Well, I just went to the vet and now things make more sense. I was told that Helldog is about 75 percent karelian bear dog and about 25 percent chow. Apparently Karelian's are bred to hunt bears. 8O

Wasn't/isn't NM on fire? How does that happen?!

I thought the fires were in Arizona. New Mexico was on the receiving end of the smoke, yes?

...and south. The big one was the Las Conchas fire that almost burned Los Alamos (they evacuated for almost 2 weeks), did extensive damage to the Santa Claran land and, sadly scorched a part of Andelain (Valles Grande). They all been contained for about 2 weeks now...

Helldog is cute! Certainly sounds like she has enough moxie to tree a bear, heh.

I have a one-day weekend. Again. And again next week. Grumble, grumble, argh.

The death toll's 91 so far, including the Utøya massacre. The shooter's a 32-year-old man from Oslo with connections to far-right politics. (pictures)

It's still almost impossible to believe something like this could've happened in a usually peaceful country with which we share a common border. I'm just left speechless.

In more insignificant news, managed to avoid getting more or less burned by about ten seconds. Put the kettle on for potatoes, shuffled later into the kitchen and wondered why the water wasn't boiling yet. Remember the water's surface looking unusual: oily and stagnant. Wandered off into another room, and soon heard something like an explosion behind me. When I got back, there was water all over the stove, floor, nearby tables, and only about one quarter of it left in the kettle, now boiling viciously. Apparently managed to make superheated water. A rare phenomenon to happen in an open kettle, but obviously probable.

...and apparently Thor, Ukko, Tiermes, Pērkons, Kõu and Pikker are fighting for turf for the second time today. So many old thunder gods, so little terrain...wonder whose turn it's to throw down bolts of lightning this time. Maybe they draw lots for the fun.

So I just watched the BBC Three 60 second news spend the full minute talknig about Amy Winehouse's death while the bit about over 90 people being murdered in Norway flashed by quickly in the tiny scrolling text area. That's some f*cked up priorities right there.

Murrin -- you are spot on. I know we're supposed to be encouraging the bread-and-circuses thing to keep the Great Unwashed entertained while the Powers In Charge loot the place, but jeez. :(

Rigel -- moving, ugh. Hope it's uneventful.

Stone -- care to share particulars? Hugs, anyhow.

Zorm -- good job on the superheated water! And...

Send 'em over here! We could use some decent thunderstorms to break this heat wave...

Magickmaker and I hunkered down inside all day today. We have to go out tomorrow, tho. 8O

Got back a little while ago from my wedding gig in Oakland. It was awesome. I got some seriously gorgeous shots. Sheila got a bonus because Heatherly was free last minute so I took her with as my videographer and she went around and filmed wishes/blessings/advice at various tables during the reception and the video person they hired only shot the ceremony. We also got all the toasts and the first dance and so forth. I'll edit it up over the next few weeks and that will be my wedding present to the new couple who have now given me in roads to other jobs. Their wedding coordinator is interested as well as other members of their church for various events. I need to get some business cards made and register myself and make it all legal and so forth. Got some work to do this next few months.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
