My Return to the Land

Post by gordon53 »

Hi, my name is Gordon, and I'm addicted to The Land!

It was just over twenty five years ago, when I was travelling weekly between London and South Wales, UK, that a friend recommended the Chronicles as good reading matter during my journeys. I took up his suggestion: after ten pages I was intrigued; after fifty enchanted; after a hundred - hooked!

It must have taken me two months to read all six (then) books, and I enjoyed every single page. It's not that often that I get that involved in a series of books but I well remember, while reading The First Chronicles, wanting to take TC by the scruff of the neck to make make him fire up his magic, and the horror and loss I felt on encountering the Sunbane. However, all that was nothing compared to the emotion that was aroused in me when Thomas entered beautiful Andelain and met his dead.

So it was with some trepidation that I decided to revisit the books, a quarter century later, as so often I've found that retracing ones steps can lead to disappointment, but I wanted to read the latest books in the series, so I felt that a reread was an essential prerequisite: I needn't have worried. The second time around is better than the first, my emotional response even stronger. I just love the way that each book is so different and yet the same (if that makes any sense! ;)).

It was by accident of Google that I discovered KevinsWatch, so I just had to join and say "Hi" to fellow Chroniclephiles, :)

someone [probably several someones] will be along presently to welcome you, and tell you about all the Donaldson-related stuff that's here, but also how we have so much more to offer besides that and blah blah blah.
I suggest just clicking things that look interesting and start reading.

Vraith is right. You will receive some ritual greetings (without fail from one of the mods of this forum who is affectionately known to some as the Concierge of the Watch) as well as many others...but whether ritual or extemporaneous, be Welcome to our online community!

My apologies, dear lady.
By the time I tried to get on the Watch today, it was inaccessible.
Your request has since been granted.

As the lady asks
Here's a reprise of the post
Deleted last night
  • A Double Double
    Is an awesome burger from
    The In N Out chain
It made much more sense
When her double-post sequence
Was still here to see

That's better....no man can write me a poem and then take it back, even a poem about burgers. So don't try that again!
