Woody Allen suggestions
So after spending the weekend going apeshit crazy (literally... I watched both the original and remake of "The Mighty Joe Young," the original King Kong, and I've got the '76 Kong coming from Netflix tomorrow), I also watched "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."
Now I feel an urge to see some other Allen films, as I had never watched one straight through before. So, what are some suggestions for the "must sees" and the "must nots?"

Glad to see you're consistent, SD
I first searched for threads on Woody, and found a comment from you from, what, 2004? where you said you liked Sleeper, Bananas, and Annie Hall, but hadn't seen anything recent of his

That confused me. I did not recall any such post...so I did a search too.Rigel wrote:Glad to see you're consistent, SDI first searched for threads on Woody, and found a comment from you from, what, 2004? where you said you liked Sleeper, Bananas, and Annie Hall, but hadn't seen anything recent of his
Are you referring to this post? That was danlo back in 2004. I haven't been here so long as that -- in fact, you Rigel have been registered here longer than I have, although I was lurking for many years before I signed up.
I don't mind being confused with danlo, but he may not feel the same.

Wow, my bad... I'd just read a post by you, and that one by Danlo, so that's what must have confused me

I enjoyed Bullets Over Broadway tremendously, though the only other Woody Allen movies I am sure I have seen are Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex... and Midnight In Paris.

The catholic church is the largest pro-pedophillia group in the world, and every member of it is guilty of supporting the rape of children, the ensuing protection of the rapists, and the continuing suffering of the victims.

Zelig, bananas, sleeper, and "everything you wanted to know about sex but were afraid to ask."
I personally did not enjoy "what's up, Tiger Lilly."

The only movie I've watched with Woody Allen in it is the 1967 version of Casino Royale.

Good catch, dAN.dANdeLION wrote:The only movie I've watched with Woody Allen in it is the 1967 version of Casino Royale.
Not only has that film been overlooked in this list (where it certainly belongs), it also is routinely neglected in the lists of James Bond 007 movies. Why? Surely not because it is not a serious adaptation of Ian Fleming's works; to justify that excuse would also disqualify much of the Roger Moore catalog of Bond films...as well as a few others.

I didn't like El Topo either. I did, however enjoy Santa Sangre. If a film is too cynical I can't enjoy it-- Oliver Stone's pictures are hard for me to enjoy.danlo wrote:YOU didn't enjoy a weird flick? Now that's weird...LZ wrote:I personally did not enjoy "what's up, Tiger Lilly."
