From Dust

Post by I'm Murrin »

I just found out about this game and I'm almost convinced about buying it (when the PC version is launched, of course).

You play as a god, helping your villagers survive against natural disasters by manipulating the environment - it reminds me so much of when I used to play Populous: The Beginning, where I'd use cheats to unlock everything and spend my time building islands and walls and stuff around my village rather than playing to the usual intended way.

Here's a vid of some gameplay which shows how it all works:

Yes, it's another single player sandbox that I know I'll sink hours into in the first two weeks then totally lose interest in. But I still want to play it.

If you're tired of single player sandboxes, why not do Minecraft more? Or if you're not tired of single player sandboxes, do more Minecraft anyway!

LOL. Just kidding. Looks cool, hope you have fun with it. Try not to let too many of your followers die - "life" has value!

I didn't say I was tired of them, I'm just saying they're the kind of game I play obsessively for a while and then just stop and never really get back into.

Let's move this to the appropriate topic!

Interesting game so far. I'm not far into it, but I've been in levels where if you're not careful with rivers and volcanoes things can get out of control. And the amount you can grab in one go doesn't really lets you do things fast enough to recover if you get it badly wrong.

The desert level was an interesting one. Uncover one too many river sources and suddenly you have a very large and fast flowing river washing away your village.

Also, the controls are slightly broken: pressing both mouse buttons together does nothing, rather than dumping the full handful.
