lorin, why would I evacuate to a place *closer* to the beach?

Jenn, if we lived closer to the ocean, as your dad does, I'd be more worried. DC is pretty far inland. Besides, I used to be on the radio in Norfolk -- I know first-hand how the media down there hype big storms. Not to say he's wrong or that we couldn't get a big one. It's certainly happened before, and he's right to prepare for it.

We're now under a tropical storm warning. Looks like DC will get the outer rain bands and some wind, but the eye will pass closer to the coast. I'm good with that. We've already had enough weird weather events here this week to last me quite awhile. 8O

Be safe, everybody.

So what I have is a circle design for the UMC and then that same center but with a nine point shield around it for the UMCP, each point being a star since there are nine space stations. And not sure about the san serif but yes basic block letters on the back. I was thinking about the design and trying to put myself in the shoes of the heads of the different divisions. I figured Min Donner would chose conservative and understated which is why I thought grey and black. I figured Holt would be flashier and red seemed like a good choice but any input you guys have would be considered. I have yet to figure out what Hashi would choose for Data Acquisition. If we did a training academy one we should also consider what colors Warden would choose. I was thinking Hashi would choose dark green with yellow or gold writing. I also kinda wanted to stay away from blue and gold since it's too obvious. The shield design already looks very much like a police shield. I was also thinking that on the UMC shirts I could put "Com Mine Station" on the back. I added latin slogans, the umc one is roughly "earth salvation" and the umcp is "protect, serve and obey." I know the drawings are ghetto but when I get the design idea down right I'll make a digital file which will be much nicer. I would also like input as to whether I should make the earth part blue and green.
Oh, this is gonna be awesome. I like the grey and black. And red and white. (Red and black? Too hard to read?) Also like the blue and gold but can also understand wanting to be more original. I would personally make the earth black - more subdued and professional. (Wasn't Earth basically a big ball of smog by that point anyway? :P )

Halloween is just about the only holiday that I like/and or understand. Every year I have grandiose plans for awesome costumes, but it's been many years since I actually did anything.

And just to reiterate what I said last night - stay safe, everyone.

I take it you approve of the initial design concepts then, Sorus? It will of course be much better when I make them in photoshop, much cleaner. I'm not sure if I am going to just go for it and buy some silk screen stuff and make them myself or if I might open one of those free spreadshirt, cafe press or other similar "shops" online so we order them and they make them.

I also agree about the black on the earth, good call.

Everyone be safe.

Totally love it, Jenn. Can't wait to see the finished product.

That sucks, Lorin. Do what you need to do to stay safe, anything else can be sorted out later. (Trite but true - wish there was something I could do to help.)

hope all the east coast USA watchers are safe and well in the aftermath of the tropical storm.

We're a-okay here in DC. Wind and rain, but we didn't even lose power. :) What a week...

Two nights ago I watched one my comic icons, Dylan Moran live in concert. I was three rows from the front, and he was hilarious. My whole family was there, as well as two great friends, and we all went and drank lots of wine after the show. What a great night. :D Still on a good buzz.

Just came home from a lovely pot roast dinner date with some friends and their new puppy Amelia. I made chocolate cherry trifle for dessert. It's amazing how much trifle an 80 lb tiny girl can pack away. She had four helpings. She's so tiny though that she can afford the calories, I just don't know where the hell she put it though after the huge dinner we all consumed. Yes, Menolly, I'll post it in the galley soon, simple, devils food cake layers with cherry jello, fresh organic cherries hand pitted by me mixed in and homemade whipped cream with real vanilla extract, confectioners sugar, meyer lemon zest and bourbon. Anyway, I think she has a hollow leg. She's literally about half my size and ate about five times what I did. It must be her morning running and other forms of extreme exercise. I am a bit jealous despite the fact that I was stuffed to the gills.

He came to my town too, but was sold out way before I had a chance to get tickets...

Glad you enjoyed it. He's a strange man, but funny as they come.

We're fine here in NH. Never lost power. Got some wind and some flooding, but nothing major. Anyone hear from Lorin? I'm worried. I have another friend in NJ showing videos of the flooding she took on FB. I think she lives near Hoboken.

I haven't. I know she was going to have to spend the weekend at work. I'm hoping she just hasn't had time to get online.

I don't have Lorin's cell number but maybe one of us who does should try to give her a call just to check in.

Glad to hear everyone weathered it ok. My Dad did ok too, some flooding in the driveway, lots of limbs down and a few trees but everything managed to fall away from the house and away from the driveway. They lost power but he has emergency generators to run the fridge and freezer and some basic functional equipment so that was ok.

Sorus, glad you love the design. I'm having my co-worker Nate help me clean it up in photoshop and so I should have a final image pretty soon or at least a partially working one before I transfer and I'll just finish it up at the store when I have some down time.

Four more days of hell commuting and I'm done folks! Yay!

i've started a thread aboutthe effects of the hurricane in vermont. glad to hear you are ok jazz.

got amuch cheaper estimate for the plumbing. should be able to get the whole house done and the bathroom fixed for under 8k!

of course our truck decided the other night that it was being stolen. shut itself down and we paid 100 something for a tow and new sensors.

and a tree fell in our backyard, onto someone else's fence. but our neighbor cut that down for free and another tree that had to die.

and sonny (our dog) got a bandanna from his last kenneling and he refuses to let us take it off. i will get julie to take a pic. he was very excited on the ride home, saw a racoon and a cat. much barking and fussing. brave dog. he places himself in my lap and i hold him as he puts his head out the window, very happy when he does this.

I was in Cape Cod when Irene came by. Suprisingly little rain, and the sun was even out, but there was a lot of wind and salt spray. Having no TV, internet, newspaper, or anything, I was surprised when I came back and heard about NJ and Vermont and NY. I had thought Irene was a bit lame until that point.

So that was my family vacay: beach, lobster dinner, beach, sand dollar hunts, beach, miniature golf, beach, the traditional watching of Jaws, beach, and hurricane.

I would like to acquire a UMCP shirt. And maybe a sticker for my car window. I hear that can help you get out of getting a ticket.

Hey, back.............. :? I spent the weekend at work in the pitch dark. The house in Jersey is still under water and no power. They won't let us back into town. It doesn't look so good.

The rental house in Long Island is fine but no power or cell yet. I went there last night.

The shelter is still without power. I am typing using a generator on the site. The clients are acting out big time. More about that when I have more emotional energy.

thanks for all the good thoughts. i need them.
