I'm one of the rare weirdos that doesn't like The Wall. It's been years since I've listened to it straight through. Cail mentioned Roger's "daddy issues" above, and obviously that reverberates throughout the album, along with his mommy issues. What I really hear on The Wall is Roger's ego taking over the band. It's the start of the end of classic Floyd. There are 3 great songs, Another Brick II, Hey You and Comfortably Numb. The rest is just a story that I've never been able to identify with.

I strongly recommend picking up the new remaster of this album. The claustrophobic mix is really cleaned up, and the album sounds better than ever.
