It may also refer to the customizable maps for the strategy game Civilization (which is up to #5 in the series now). Ever since Civ 2 there has been a tool included for making your own playable maps with resources, starting points for players and so on.
I searched a bit on the civfanatics forum, but I didn't find anything based on the Land... time for an effort by someone? My own Civ days are mostly over though.
