The Sleeping Woman (Poem)

Post by Dani »

I am not sure how much this poem will make sense to those reading as it is a metaphor with personal meaning. If you want clarification, I will answer you via private message as I do not think it would be appropriate here 8) Even without background knowledge, I hope you like it :D

THE SLEEPING WOMAN

A woman slumbers in soft silken sheets of white
curled beneath the branches of a weeping willow
resting her head on a pillow of hair
her bare skin caressed by a gentle breeze
carrying the scent of spring rain

She sleeps, an unknowing prisoner
trapped behind walls of my own creation
caged in fear of her power and her hunger
living only to sleep but not to wake
fooled into thinking there is no outside world.

Only in dreams do we meet, facing one another
wanting to touch, to blend, to become one
stopped by the presence of my own insecurities
blocked by the power of fear and dread
hindered from completion by weakness and guilt

She looks at me with green eyes flashing fire
daring me to open myself up to her flame
knowing I need her bold undaunted spirit
tasting my fear of her provocative nature
undeterred by the chasm gaping between us

Thus, we will continue in forced separation
until the day one comes to bridge the gap
heal the wound that has kept us apart
mend the rift between mind, heart, and soul
to bind us back as one creation

thankyou for sharing this stunning piece of yourself .. I love the imagery .. it is powerful and enlivening :)

its interesting .. poems maybe written with certain metaphorical significance to the author which cannot be ignored and yet a reader can find in the same poetic movement their own significance.

This is the case for me .. and no doubt others who read this :)

Superbly meaningful .. and delightfully fluid .. do you have more?

Thanks for reading, Skyweir :) I have more poems tucked away here and there. I have an accompanying piece to this poem, though I would have to reread it to make sure it is appropriate to post here. If you are really curious, I run a small MSN community where all of my poems and stories can be found (as well as the writing endeavors of several of my friends). I can send you the link via private message if you'd like as I don't know the exact rules on advertising for another community on these boards
