My Firelands experience is all over the place so far. First I get the Baleroc kill with you guys. Next, I get brought in to fill a spot for a Rag kill on the new toon (guild's 2nd kill, but it would have been a 1-shot if I hadn't been learning the fight and caused wipes). And this week I got a spot for Rhyolith and Majordomo Staghelm kills.

I've still never even seen Shannox or Alysrazor.

Rhyolith was very strange for someone who'd never done it before coming in for a farm kill. I had no idea what was going on, I just followed the orders to spin him around.

Happy birthday, Kell!

So you downed Rag? Cool. We're on Alysrazor - frustrating fight as a healer, too many range issues.

Heh. I'm not looking forward to Alysrazor, seems like another fight I'd be likely to cause wipes.

I wasn't expecting to get a go at Rag, but someone wasn't available for that day and I was asked to come along; it was my first real raid with the guild. Now I'm on the roster as a new raider, so I don't have a guaranteed spot but will get to see more.

Alysrazor = I would like to meet the person who decided it was a bright idea to add tornadoes to half the fights this expansion. I would like to meet them in a dark alley. I would then like to smack them upside the head and walk away leaving them wondering what the heck that was all about.

I'm not sure what that would accomplish, but it'd be satisfying right about now.

How're things going for you folks these days?

On my end, the new guild's 6/7 Heroic as of last week. They'd already killed H Shannox and worked on Rhyolith some before I started raiding. I was there for the Rhyolith kill (but missed all the hard work that came before it), and the rest have been post-nerf.

The nerfs haven't made things as easy as I would've thought. Though normal Ragnaros is a world away from what it was pre-nerf.

This is my new toon, by the way.

Heh. I've heard some of the guild aren't keen on having a Monty Python reference as a name, but it's a 5 year old guild and they don't want to lose that, heh.

That's an awesome guild name. Glad things are going well for you.

We're still working on Ragnaros, our usual end-boss difficulties, we should have him down soon.

Niiice.

I'm happy right now because I got the same rare pet two days in row, one on each of my alliance hunters. I'd spent a decent amount of time camping him back in Wrath and never saw him, then yesterday I was on my lowbie hunter when he popped up, and was a level (two frakking bars, actually) too low to tame him. Managed to get my main out in time to tame him, and thought I'd check again today to see if he was up, and he was there when I flew over.

Old Cliff Jumper, the unique-skinned worg from the Hinterlands. Difficult to see here, but he has really bright green eyes.

Heh. I was wandering around on Wikipedia, looking for a suitable name for Maru's new wolf, when I came across an Aztec deity, Tezcatlipoca, who has a few different aspects including Tloque Nahuaque. I'd always wondered where that came from - none of the Loque info sights I visited when I was camping him had an origin for his name, but I never bothered to research it.

Anyone watching all the news from Blizzcon?

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

Level cap 90

Pandaren as playable race, available to both factions.

Monk class available to every race except Goblin and Worgen - can play as melee dps, tank, or healer (with a special new healing style where you heal by dealing melee damage).

Pandaria as new continent, 5 zones, 6 new dungeons

Talents and skill learning revamped - you learn spells automatically based on your level 10 spec choice as you level. Talents are reduced to a choice between 3 abilities that unlock every 15 levels. Each class will get 6 talents overall, chosen from 6 sets of 3 (you can't get two on the same tier).

Challenge mode dungeons, where you run against the clock to win medals and place on guild and realm ranking tables. (Like bear runs or the old Strat timed clear; medals reward unique statless gear for transmogging.)

Heroic Scholomance and Heroic Scarlet Monastery

"PvE Scenarios" - kinda like in between group quests and dungeons.

Pet battles - basically they've cut and pasted the entire concept of the Pokemon games and applied it to non-combat pets in WoW.

3 new battlegrounds with new play styles.

Ranged weapon slot/relic slot removed for everyone. Bows/Guns/Crossbows/Wands all become main hand weapons. Hunters no longer use melee weapons.

Druids have 4 specs, no more combined Feral spec (though I guess there's no such thing as spec in the current sense anyway).

No raid buff totems, totems are all utility stuff (like Tremor, Grounding, etc, lot more of those coming).

For a better understanding of what the new talent system is:

media.mmo-champion.com/images/news/2011/october/pp76.jpg

You can pick one on each row, unlocked at the level shown.

Edit: Don't know if it's clear from waht I've written here: These "talents" are for the whole class, there is only one talent pane - so the one above is identical for Prot, Ret, or Holy paladins.

The talents panel is on now so they're just rolling out specific examples. Shadowstep is a talent, for example, so if they're inclined non-Sub Rogues could spec it in the new system.

I expect info to change a lot before the actual release, as it always does... First impression, it looks pretty awful.

Doesn't Rift just have ordinary talent trees, where you get points and you can put them anywhere as you move up?

Regardless of how the zones and storyline end up, I think some of the new abilities they've shown in the talents sound interesting. Like the knockback totem, or the new Paladin spell they're bringing in which is kind of a combination of current Holy Radiance and the talent that gives run speed when you cast HR or Divine Protection - a sprint with an aoe heal.

Though I'm less interested by the tier on the Shaman page which offers 3 different AoE healing spells with no damage option (one is healing from damage done, but still).
