Can't wait for the first couple of seasons, though a lot will depend on casting (Jake will probably be the difficult part). But if people didn't like the ending of The Sopranos...

i'm reserving judgement until i see that something is actually going to get green-lighted but my feeling is as long as Mick Garris has nothing to do with it, it should be a good series!

He does seem to have a host of turd burgers, doesn't he? The Stand could have been soooooooooooooooooo much better, but of all of what he has in his credits is probably the best listed. I just think some of the casting was off, but that the goofy demon make-up on Flagg kinda just took a dump on what would have probably been an ok adaptation.
I don't say this often, but I don't know if they can do this story justice. I'm one who generally believes most things can be adapted, but I think the overall mood will be shot with this. I think bits of pieces will definitely work on screen, but I'll be surprised if Ron Howard, if he is still involved, will be able to convince me. And I already think Bardem will have a hard time convincing me he is Roland.

Bardem's all wrong for Roland. From my first reading 30 years or so ago, Kurt Russell's always been Roland for me. Anyone else steps into that role, it just won't look right.

you know.... javier bardem would be the very LEAST of the things (casting or otherwise) you could worry about in the production.
and frankly, no matter WHO was cast it probably wouldn't live up to or match the Roland each of us has in our minds.
javier bardem is a REALLY good actor.
just look at it this way, at least it's not tom cruise.
(yes tom cruise is in production right now for a film called One Shot, based on lee childs' jack reacher series, a character that is 6'5" - log on over at the Reacher site if you want to see some people havin hissy fits about miscasting!!! LOL)
and frankly, no matter WHO was cast it probably wouldn't live up to or match the Roland each of us has in our minds.

Viggo Mortensen was up for the role as well. I would have been happier with him, truth be told. But I agree. Javier is a talented actor, but I just wouldn't have thought of him for Roland. I felt the same way about Viggo for Aragorn in LOTR, and he very much made the role. So I'm ready to shut the hell up when Javier knocks it out of the park (if he does). But I'm saying, it's going to take some convincing.
