Roleplaying the chronicles in neverwinter nights

Post by Covenant the Unbeliever »

At present im writing a module for the game neverwinter nights (based on dungeons&dragons). Its purely not for profit just fun for people to play. If anyone either plays nwn and wants to get involved or wants to contribute any ideas, information, help etc they can message me here.

Hopefully i can move it forward from a mud based game called the land i played a long time back.

All the best everyone

Wouldn't a reasonably faithful adaptation of the Land ( if not of the books ) require lots of changes to the engine, such as disallowing most spells ( fireballs and meteor showers come to mind ) and several classes as well ( what's a paladin doing in the Land after all? what about a cleric? )?
I once toyed with the idea of adapting a NWN module to play in the Land, but it requires so many modifications to be faithful enough that I didn't think it could be done by any single person or small group of people - it would end up being a different game altogether, I fear... :(

Re: Classes

Post by Covenant the Unbeliever »

Its easy enough to script the game to disallow people through the main game portal to go anywhere.

i.e. script check for character class, if = paladin, cleric, sorceror or wizard then block :)

and as for magic its very low power, except for a handful of people so obviously clerics, sorcerors and wizards would be banned too.

However if i recall correctly at one point or another most of the other classes, monks, fighters, rogues, bards, barbarians, druids, and rangers have all been mentioned.

Hope this helps

You could easily picture the Haruchai and the Bloodguard as monks, fighters are of course members of the Warward or similar traditions, rogues are a bit more difficult to place ( we haven't had any clue that there are thieves, burglars or even "dungeon delvers" in the Land, but they could be scouts ), bards of course have a place ( even if they aren't called like that ), barbarians could hail from other cultures, druids might be Unfettered Ones studying the wood-lore, and rangers could fulfill the role of scouts or loners... that's just what comes to mind at first.

Of course you could reserve the role of sorcerer or wizard to the Lords, fairly low-powered, choosing less flashy spells, and so on... Hmm, the idea starts to intrigue me...
