Another earth

Post by Rigel »

Anyone else seen this? A great little sci fi flick about, well, the discovery of another world identical to our own. Despite that, it's a very well done story about one girl's mistake, and the tragic consequences it has.

I think I would have enjoyed the story a lot more without the hook, but I still thought it was good. It made me think of the thread about deliberate pacing, though... I think some people here would be bored by it, though I wasn't.

I liked it, especially since I saw it right after the much-hyped Melancholia. It's one of those neat little sci-fi stories you barely notice are sci-fi, largely focusing on the characters whose inner workings are slowly, meticulously brought to life over the movie. With such dramatic events happening to the main characters (and, well, the world, I guess), it would be easy to lose the story in melodrama, but the writers (and she can act, too? damn!) and director keep it fairly focused.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
