Aw shux, thanks guys  You've been nothing but rude to me since the day I came and this just takes the cake.

Jenn, go ahead and post all you like. I was mostly tongue in cheek. So long as there isn't graphic evidence, I should be fine!

We have indeed had an influx of good people lately. Ananda, too -- altho I haven't seen her here much since the holidays. Hopefully the guys in the Tank didn't scare her off...

And Rigel --

And in other news...Magickmaker gave me her cold.

Woke up at 3:44 which was when my hubby decided to slip into bed (having drifted off hours earlier on the couch, no doubt) and my left arm was on fire. So after tossing and turning for a half hour I got up and rigged up the head traction brace and hung there for 20 minutes. Nothing so lonely as being awake at 4am in pain. (cue emo/tragic music).

But I did fall asleep again and feel fine today. If you've been watching the news, cities a few hours' drive from us are under 24 hour curfew or having riots; entire states are shut down; in Lagos there are tentatively peaceful demonstrations but they could turn ugly at the drop of a hat. Meanwhile here in Jos, things are quiet, which is ironic. I was saying to my husband that maybe people here are finally fed up and disillusioned with violence. Losing family members to senseless violence probably gets old.

In the back of our minds, we can "always" leave and go back home, although that would mean jobless and homeless and having left behind our possessions. But plenty of people we care about have nowhere to go, this is their home. It's not like we have no investment here; our lives are here. But we know that if things continue to worsen, we may have to leave. It's a funny thing to have to say that we have kind of gotten used to that over the last few years.

Anyway it's my last day of leisure before returning to work, and I'm enjoying it BUT I hope to God we do resume school on Monday as planned. We missed 20 days of school last year. I miss "my" kids!!

I fear you may be correct(ish) in your assumption. 'Scare' not quite the right word, but.... ah....

Which probably means I shouldn't have responded at all, but I just wanted to say I miss her dammit, she made me laugh.

deer, pain sucks, especially at that time in the morning. I'm glad you're feeling better today but here, you can have this anyway ,especially since it exists because of you! Life sounds pretty full-on there at the moment. I hope you and your friends remain out of harm's way and that you are soon reunited with 'your' kids.

Ali, get well soon.

Aha. That's too bad. She made *me* laugh, too. :( If she comes back, maybe we can encourage her to stay but avoid the Tank. It *can* be done. ;)

And thanks for the get-well wishes. 8) I'd hug you, but I'm contagious...

Ok, so week 1 of new job is underway.
19 years of experience, and now I'm the new guy again :(
I'm enjoying it so far, and after some training will be let loose on the intervention programmes with the prisoners :D

I like my new boss (he was my old boss before he moved here), but I suspect I am going to try his patience tomorrow when I ask him to write me a reference for a supervisors post I'm applying for at the Prison College.

If I get this post, then I will be leaving the programmes after only 2 months, and they'll need to readvertise my job and train someone else.

Won't know til Feb if I've made it to interview stage, but here's hoping.

Glad you are getting better. Why so glum, Balon?

I went on a room mate interview today. I think it went well. I should know tomorrow. If I get the place it will be the first time in my life I've had strangers for roomies. It's not my ideal situation nor location but it's workable. Direct shot to work on the 6 Parnassus bus which is easy. Downside, it's ON Haight, half a block west of Ashbury. Heart of hipsterville. I met two of the potential roomies. Chris is a 34 year old surfer who is a counselor with mentally disturbed teenagers and Ray who is a 28 yr old waiter who makes leathercrafts for his hobby. Back part of the living room was taken up by stacks of leather materials and leather working machines. It wasn't the nicest place but it had a big fenced backyard for Moose to run around in and the bedroom up for rent was towards the back and away from the street with a window that looked out over the yard so that was a plus. I should know in a few days.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

That sounds pretty good...I'm sure Moose would dig having a place to rule over... heh

Good luck on the roommate thing, Jenn!

balon!: cheer up! That's an order!

Here, it's basically "same stuff, different day." Still sick with a cold, still got problems with Outlook at work (I spent 45 minutes on the phone with the IT guy, first thing this morning -- we'll see if today's fix takes...). At least it's Friday. And Monday's a holiday.

a brain a cluttered place? Like that description, but I'm sure there's absolutely noo-body here who can identify!
