Anything works for me.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. I should be able to make it in October.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

So.... tentatively dipping toes in this thread.
I have an American friend who was sadly unvisa'd and had to return to Baltimore last year, and another who, God-knows-why, went back to Canada
, and I've been thinking about visiting them.
Coincidentally, I've recently met a cool bunch of 'strangers' on the internet am wondering about making them less strange. (Though I doubt anyone is capable of accomplishing that feat!)
In short, I'm thinking this n00b might crash your
As for preferred dates, I'll just book annual leave for whatever time you guys end up choosing.
Disclaimer: This is still in the idea not commitment stage, but since wayfriend requested chimer-innerers, this is me chiming.

SdS, I am making it a point to make sure all international Watchers are aware of the official 'fest in Albuquerque in summer of 2013 (we think) for TLD before they commit to a regional 'fest. In case it is a once-in-a-lifetime trip or something.
I know I for one think as many Watchers as possible should come for this last Covenant-oriented elohimfest with SRD. While those who attend the regional 'fests would love to meet any and all Watchers who can make it to them all, if only one can be done, please consider making it the official one in 2013 first.

Hey Menolly, thanks for making the distinction between the regionals and official events. Feels like a gymnastics comp. I should get my old kit out and come dressed in that! Just kidding, it doesn't fit anymore. No really, I never did gymnastics. But I do like to run about throwing ribbands in the air, so I can see why I thought of it.
Ah anyway, favourite pastimes aside, I've never been to the States and may end up making a non-SRD based decision, but I do appreciate the clarification since you are a long way from non-existent Oz.

But but but Shaun...if you came to Boston, you'd be closer to your friends. And you'd be here sooner. And...
(I would be stoked if you showed up, either this year or next!)

Cheers Ali, I'd be stoked to meet you too.
My Canadian friend is in Regina, so I think there's gonna be a fair bit of travel whatever I decide. (Although the two friends are themselves friends, so I could convince Regina friend to travel to Baltimore! ) Alternatively, if my drug-running/money laundering business continues to grow.. ah... I mean if I continue to put in an honest day's work, never know, I could come both years!
Sadly that is probably a bit ambitious. Anyway, I'll put things in my thinking cap (as soon as I find it) and keep an eye on this thread. I would like to see my mates sooner rather than later and I've been promising myself a visit to the US for a long time, plus I'm impatient, so 2012 might be more likely. Even so, thanks again Menolly for the suggestion.

I hope so, too, DotD!
Shaun -- <pulls out the road atlas> Uh, yeah, Regina's probably closer to Albuquerque than to Boston, but not by much.
OTOH, Baltimore is about an hour from where I live....

You can put me down as a definite maybe for October in Boston. The first week is problematic because of Jewish holidays. But plan away, and I'll let you know if I can make it.
A lot also depends on whether I could get away from work.
ETA: the date in the poll doesn't conflict with the holidays, but it's still subject to working around when my co-workers take off.

Definite maybe is a good description for me as well. Wanna, but can't commit just yet.
I am also prompted to ask about the discussion upthread of the TLD Elohimfest being in 2013. Since the book will not be released until the fall of next year, would we not be holding the fest in early summer of 2014?

We should spin a new thread about 2013/2014 for sure.
Let's see.
Elogimfest 1 was in June 2004, 4 months before ROTE.
Elohimfest 2 was in June 2006, 4 months before FR.
Elohimfest 3 was in June 2011, 8 months after AATE.
I guess it depends on whether you want to ask Donaldson questions about the Last Dark. If you do, it's 2014. If not, it's 2013.

Oops, for some reason I was under the impression TLD was being released October of this year, although now that I think about it, I do recall comments about "the end of the world" in December occurring before TLD's publication date. My bad. I would definitely prefer the last Covenant SRD elohimfest to be after the release of TLD. So, hopefully 2014 it is.

Yeah, summer 2014 for the next Fest in Albuquerque. I should've caught that -- sorry.
The first couple of Last Chrons fests were held before the new book came out. So while SRD could tantalize us with, say, book cover art ("So that's Sauron?"
), we weren't able to get him to clarify anything for us. Plus we didn't have the new book for him to sign. So for AATE, we waited 'til the summer after the book came out. I believe that's the plan again for the final book.
