I remember that ad...I think I even considered it, but my mom had something to say about it.
IIRC, Grit's origin isn't far from my original hometown...I think it was in Williamsport, PA.

i delivered the hometown paper. The Concord Monitor. of course back then it was an afternoon paper and had no Sunday edition. the saturday edition did come out in the am.

so we kids could deliver the paper after school. i had a couple different routes at times and was kind of a permamnent sub for my friend. whenever he would go on vacation or such.

now the paper is always am and there is a Sunday edition. so kids can no longer deliver it.

wish i still had the newspaper bag i would use to carry them . :(

I remember reading Grit when I was a kid back in the 60s. I delivered the local paper, but never the Grit. That was back in the day where the paperboy had to go collect from everyone every month.

So when I later saw "Better Off Dead" with the paperboy "I want my $2!" it struck a chord with me :)
