Bands that you can name all of the members of

Post by Cagliostro »

This usually means they are one of your favorite bands, or you know them all personally. Or they are just so damned popular, you couldn't help but know their names. And by this category, for bands such as punk bands who have silly names, you can identify each musician by the silly name from looking at the band picture. And singer/songwriters do not count.

Here's my list:
Dead Milkmen
The Pogues
Queen
They Might Be Giants (beyond just John & John)
The Eels (at one time, but thanks to a shifting of musicians, probably not anymore)
The Beatles
Pink Floyd (also with shifting members, so no telling, but the core members I can)
Kansas (again, shifting members)
ELO (although I have no idea now if I could)
The Police

And I think when I was working at Toys R Us, I could name all of New Kids On The Block, although I tried my damnest never to hear their music. Of course I could also name all the TMNT figures too, so that means nothing, and it is for a very similar reason for both.

There are several I think I can name until I get to the drummer or bassist, and then I realize I don't know them, such as Led Zepplin or Rolling Stones or something.
There are probably more I could name, but I can't think of them at the moment. Enjoy!

There are some I used to know, but right now all I can remember are the White Stripes. ;)

I wonder if this is a generational thing, as when you had records, it was so much fun to read through all the liner notes, or at least it was for me. I wonder how many people sit and read through the CD inserts over the past decade, or if the songs were just downloaded, and there isn't that connection to the band like there was back in the day.

Hmm...this makes me a bit sad.

Oh, and add Violent Femmes to my list.

Too many to list. Then again, with the exception of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Foo Fighters, I don't listen to much that's been recorded since 1990.

Too many to list, but mainly of bands I have liked for 10+ years... Ones I started listening to more recently, more likely just the lead singer and sometimes not even that.

Interesting topic, not something I'd thought about before.

Like others have said: a lot. It's a matter of accumulation though...there are probably 8 or 10 bands a year that I like enough to look into thoroughly...but if 2 or 3 years later, their works haven't grown enough to keep me interested, I then forget them without even trying.

Does it need saying?

Yes.

All 18 members in all its incarnations, including Jon Davison replacing Benoit David as lead vocalist.

The strangest thing to me about the Eagles is that all the members played for Linda Rondstat [IIRC, one of her albums had all of them on it].

Luci, that's kinda obsessive in a cool way. I've been often guilty of sorta the opposite...liking a particular person, then tracking down everyone they've ever played with [Tony Levin and Adrian Belew spring to mind cuz both of them have worked with a surprising number of peeps included on your list...either the bands or members of those bands on other projects].

I'm pretty much the same in this as Luci; I know many band's complete lineups. I also do the same as Vraith in that if I like a particular musician, I'll try to find out every band he's played in.

just the Beatles. And I really tried too...
but then again, my brother and I have talked for hours about t he bizarre way I listen to music. I tend to listen to single songs for hours on end, and rarely to entire albums. So I guess it makes sense...
