Who likes Tr0n? I like Tr0n. Was it Disney's best? Perhaps it is the best film about computers? Does it predate the Matrix?

It predates the Matrix in the sense of having been made first

I suppose it has an element of people doing things that couldn't happen in the real world, but other than that there isn't much resemblance. Perhaps the most important difference is the fact that the Tr0n bloke knows he's in a game. That and Tr0n being a bit pants

I've always liked TRON. When they released the special edition dvd a year or so ago I snatched it up. Very cool special features. I saw TRON when it was released in like 82 or so. I thought it was an interesting concept. Jeff Bridges as Flynt was cool and amusing. I just like everything about the film but more importantly I spent hundreds of hours playing the stand up arcade game. Light cycles, grid bugs and the tanks provided so much entertainment for me its amazing when I think about it. Yeah, I'm a fan.

I think the music and sound effects had some kind of subliminal addictive effect. In fact, just thinking about the music is giving me the urge to twirl something.

For all you tr0n-heads:

Tron 2.0, a video game, came out in 2003 and has been critically acclaimed and is overall an enjoyable game. If you want to take a trip back to nostalgia land, I recommend this title. Plus, there's multiplayer mayhem Tr0n-style!

I downloaded TRON 2.0 a few months ago. With what little time I've spent trying it out I have to say its pretty cool.

Tr0n? Heh; we better stay on topic or the next thing you know there'll be a "Tr0n but not forgotten thread". Saw Tr0n at the theatre, liked it; played the arcade game, loved it. Saw Matrix at the theatre; loved it; have yet to play the game though.

This is the understatement of the century. I was present for dAN's "conquering" of the TRON arcade game....in many different locations. More soda and combos were never consumed. Ah the good old days.......

It would be alot more complex being in tr0n nowadays, it would be all 3-d and stuff, and your enemies would be clever... hmmm, scary, perhaps they should make a sequel.

Wow, we have a previously unsuspected contingent of TRON fans here at the Watch. I've truly found my place.

Bought the DVD when it came out, too. Loved it! The interviews were funny and very insightful. I have the game as well, but haven't installed it yet. I should install some upgrades first, to do proper justice to the game. I'm sure it will be a blast. Maybe one of these days I'll see you all in some multiplayer battle somewhere.

i'm with you .. saw Tron liked it .. saw Matrix - loved it!! I was blown away by the 'Matrix' .. loved it conceptually .. so briliantly clever!! and loved the sequels!!

the 2nd less only by degrees!!

oh .. and back to TrOn .. its also a good sci-fi flick ..

Yes, they were very fortunate to have David Warner join the cast. The intensity he brought to the role of Sark helped make that character so dominating.

I wish the final battle between Sark and Tron had been more explosive, instead of the brief, anti-climactic encounter it was. I realize the filmmakers were strapped for time and money, but everything was leading to this confrontation between the two "video game" warriors, so the audience deserved a BIG showdown.

I've thought about the way Tron smashes apart Sark's disc with his own. (It's been 20+ years, I'm not actually spoiling the plot for anyone, am I?? I know there are a lot of folks around here who are paranoid about spoilers.) Anyway, I'm thinking it was Tron's "superior" code that "deleted" Sark's code: Sark was a powerful program, but not very innovative, while Tron was a leaner, more creative program that could do things Sark could not. Maybe that's what Tron was getting at when he says, "I'm also better than you," before proceeding to shatter Sark's disc. Or was it that Alan One's special instructions on Tron's disc simply overwhelmed Sark's programming?

Just some Friday night rambling. Don't feel you have to answer.

Joy likes Tron. The movie, that is, I've never played the game. IMO the look of the movie doesn't age because, even though the effects are dated, the artistic sense, color and design, are so harmonious.

Dilinger was a hack programer who stole most of his ideas from others. (Which is the main motivation for Flynn to break into the company network and unintentionally got himself digitized in the first place.) I'm not suprised that Alan's "Kung Fu" was stronger than Dilinger's which accounted for why TRON was better than Sark.

Yup, loved troN, though I haven't seen it in years. I saw it when it was originally in the theater, and drove home at like 80mph I was so pumped. ROFL!

Does anybody remember the other Tron game in the arcades? It was a good try at 3D, with you in the foreground, seeing only your own back, and three bad guys farther back, facing you. You threw discs back and forth, and could block. It was very cool.

And I thoroughly loved the more popular game too.
