Holiday booked. Came in at under £850 because I found a specialist company with charter flights rather than the scheduled stuff you see on Expedia and Lastminute.

I guess I'm going to Canada.

I've not been out of the country in about 13 years, and I've never been outside of Europe, that's why I chose that particular emoticon. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into, hehe.

Sorus, if you want me to go with you for support I am more than happy to. I'll also go with you for any legal consultation meetings if you want as well. I hope they gave you copies of the documents you signed before. If they didn't then you have the right to ask for them and if you didn't get copies I would advise you to do it now and you can have those looked over too. It certainly can't hurt anything and it might even help if even in a small way. A lot of the lawyers that do community assistance will take the cases of low income folks on pro bono if there is a need for any further action past the free consultation. And I'll stop preaching and nagging for now. I just know that neither one of us can afford to pass up any potential for financial gain at this point in time.

I got a lot of writing done today, which feels good. I'd been stalling because I knew I needed to write a big argument scene and I kind of wasn't looking forward to it. I'm past it now, and all excited again.

Hi Lorin,

Firstly

I was knocked off my feet a couple of years ago with multiple bulging discs, prolapses, nerve stuff. To put it mildly, and crassly, back shit sucks. Anyway, apart from the hugs, just wanted to add my two cents. Obviously, each case is different. For some, rehab (including things like swimming/core strengthening), combined with your choice of osteo/physio etc, combined with anti-inflams, combined with upper case patience work well. Just briefly on that, you really do need to be gentle and lower your 'bounce back' expectations if you choose the pain management/maintenance route.

For others, surgery is the way to go. I second whoever it was that said surgery has come a long way. (Can't be bothered to go back and read thread!). A friend had fusion surgery around the same time I was taking the other route, granted he had a good surgeon, but he was up and about within a couple of days, and has been pain free since. Which, coming from someone who's experienced long-term back pain, is mighty appealing!

Anyway, doctors everywhere will give different opinions, but most of them, at least here in this country, recommend surgery for worse cases and management for less-worse.

That is brilliant.

As to the other, I really, really, really appreciate the offer, but I hope it doesn't go that far. I've been giving it a lot of thought over the last few days, and I don't even know what I want. Yes, my father's side of the family is extremely wealthy, but I have never asked them for anything, and I really don't WANT anything from them. It's a point of pride, but how much is my pride worth? Can I literally put a price on it? Is it worth anything if I can put a price on it? Am I putting way too much thought into this? Do I care what they think of me? Do I have anything to lose? Did I need more reasons to have my brain stuck on the spin cycle?

I'm just going for about a week in Toronto, price is only flights and hotel. Went through www.canadianaffair.com, they do very cheap charter flights, probably not very comfortable for 7 hours in the air, though!

Sorus, I think your perspective is way in the arena of defensive. Think of it this way, what if your gran was sorry about the estrangement and wanted to make it up to you and the rest of your family is trying to screw you over. Wouldn't it be a kind of "screw you in your face" if you did take what's offered and not let them screw you over again for their own personal gain? I see it more as fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Or maybe, hey, you already pushed me out once, you don't get to push me out again. It's not putting a price on your pride, it's taking back your power for yourself rather than allowing them to steal your power again. Anyway, I think this way, gifts are given because the giver wants to give them, not because they have to. It's not selling your pride if you accept a gift. This is between you and your gran, NOT you and your father and uncle. Not sure if I am making the point I want to.

Anyway, we opened the hive to check how the bees wintered and I got some stellar shots.

I saw a bald eagle yesterday and it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. And I only almost wrecked twice

But I was on the way to the eye doctor. After my exam, this pretty gal was helping me out with trying on glasses, and was kind of flirting with me, and that was pretty cool. I usually get really nervous and awkward around women, which is why I never date and am always alone, but I felt pretty relaxed with this girl, and it was pretty cool.

But then my ex-wife walked into the eyeglass store, and suddenly I was ruined

See, I called her when I saw the eagle, because years ago, everyone kept talking about how they were seeing bald eagles everywhere, and so I started watching for them. Every time I saw a hawk or a buzzard, I was cranking my neck around, and she always yelled at me for trying to wreck the car. I never did see one, but totally got hooked to checking out the big birds on the highway. And always got an earful for it, too.

We live pretty far apart now, but both happened to be in that city on that day. And we would have never known we were both in town if it wasn't for that eagle. And I never seem to have any chemistry with someone I just meet, but I was hitting it off with the eyeglass gal. But because of the eagle, I didn't get to ask out the pretty girl. Its just weird how all this stuff works out.

Anyway, I went bird watching today, and it lifted my spirits up. Being out in the fresh air, watching beautiful birds soar on the wind, it was totally awesome. But now I am sad again.

I quit drinking in September. I don't go to AA or anything, I just thought I was drinking too much, so I quit. But I don't know why I don't drink. People often quit drinking because they have something to lose. But I don't. So I don't know why I don't do it. I guess I know I will be just as sad when I am drunk. But sometimes being drunk feels good. Or just buzzed or whatever.

I guess I don't even know how I feel.
