I think the English term for those add-ons would be slip-on cleats or urban crampons. Very nice product, wish I had owned them when I lived in Cleveland.

I'm under the impression that my case was much less serious (I don't know what all those medical terms mean

), and that which has aided me may not necessarily help you, but here are a few things.

-Painkillers combined with muscle relaxants. I think the latter's helped more

-Sitting in the sauna. Mild 50-60C heat, 20-30mins at a time. Heat doesn't agree with everyone, but since most of my problems stemmed from muscle cramps, this has been a viable treatment. Hmm, maybe hot baths might fill the same niche if you can't access a sauna?

-Trying to spend time with regular activities and friends as much as possible and do light exercises. This helps draw the mind away from the pain. I started the walks around 2,5 weeks from the injury. Also I've listened to a truckload of audio books. Concentrating on a story while resting with your eyes closed is MUCH better than just following the silence and thus becoming trapped into your own thoughts

-Overall, getting enough rest. Afternoon and evening naps may help balance the loss of sleep during the night. Sleeping pills may aid also

I have a friend who has suffered from herniated disks, and she received some aid from cross-country skiing / sauvakävely / swimming. I know, local sports, but this is what's easily available here.

Cambo, you have realize that lorin is not constrained by domain...nor range for that matter.

I agree with you Sorus. It's been a long week. It's POURING down rain outside and I got thoroughly soaked on my way home from work. It's supposed to rain all weekend which sucks because it means no beach running with Moose. My day tomorrow is taken up with waiting for the AT&T tech to come trouble shoot why the new freaking uverse internet service isn't working, they were supposed to be here before noon on Wednesday but didn't show up until after 1 at which point I was already at the dentist. So they are supposed to be here between 8 and 12 tomorrow and then I have a dental appointment at 3 so not much time to play tomorrow. I'll probably do laundry after the dentist to get it out of the way so that on Sunday I can have some time for myself and my puppywhuppass. Work was more fun than anything else today so yay for that despite the fact that I was just tired. I'll post the gory details in my blog.

although I regularly walk so much that I don't really count the distances. Actually did nine a couple of days back with mom; the weather was excellent, hadn't felt any significant pains that day, and didn't notice how far we'd ended up before turning back.

Neither of us owns a car. Europe is different from the States in this sense: pavements and bicycle paths exist almost everywhere, and nature's open-access ("everyman's right").

Kinda nice... reminds me of when I lived in Canada- no car, but unlimited bus pass for public transit.

Now I drive on enormous highways, and feel like humans were not meant to be surrounded by so much concrete. But I want to be here right now.

It is beautiful today so of course I just did something stupid and self destructive. I went outside and gardened. Ah well , life is short. At least if I am stuck in bed, my garden will be pretty through the window.

just paid the plumber 280 some dollars for the unblocking of the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink/tub.

it will be some 4 grand to get the entire plumbing redone.

One. Went ot this morning, quick look around the shops in Newcastle as usual. Bought a graphic novel.

Two. Had to buy a mother's day card on the way home. I hate buying cards. Really hate it, especially for holidays so the stores are all packed with people. I get increasingly frustrated and angry the longer it takes to find something I like that isn't filled with the kind of insincere saccharine nonsense that I would never actually say to anyone myself. Cards are pointless when you're going up to someone and handing them a gift in person, but if you stop buying them people seem to take it the wrong way.

Three. I got home 45 minutes later than expected and had to rush and get some food ready in time for a raid (WoW). Ate pizza between wipes for the first 20 minutes. Felt better as the raid progressed. Second kill of Hagara on heroic (we didn't repeat it last week), and got our first pulls on Heroic Warmaster Blackhorn. It's looking easier than expected.

Four. Spent the last 2-3 hours reading the graphic novel. Pretty powerful, filled with so much pathos. Feeling good now.

Five. Time for dinner.

Murrin, with your composition skills, would a blank note card with a pretty cover be better than a prewritten greeting card? I bet your mom would appreciate a handwritten heart felt note over what the greeting card companies come up with.
