You could also try knapping silcrete (which is what the indigenous people use a lot here) and less expensive (I'm guessing) than, at least, chert.

Great idea! I found a group called PSK, Puget Sound Knappers.

I don't think they sell stone, but it's going to be great to have brains to pick. Plus they put on classes, mostly free!
I'll take a look at getting some silcrete. I've also been experimenting with glass and johnstone (broken toilet porcelain..haha)
