I like the new buttons, and I could get used to the brown. But, I don't like the orange screen for typing posts, I think it could do with maybe being a little less bright. And yeah, the banners out...

:x this smiley doesn't apear to be showing up properly under the "emoticons where they are all previewed, or is that just me?

So far, I generaly like it, but still prefer the old scheme.

I was about to say that I'm getting used to the colours, but then I opened the Post Reply page. Please, please, please get rid of as much of the orange as you can withought ruining the look. The browns aren't seeming as bad this time round. Quotes look ok, the buttons and icons are all right, but the top banner will have to be changed (If I understand correctly, the theme is designed to have a full length banner, but we don't have one - I think if the banner was remade longer than it is, it'd look ok (longer - not just stretched)).

I'll need to change my title colour, it looks a little... mundane.

Furl's - this is one of the downloaded themes, so it's designed for a basic phpBB without any mods - the parts of the mods that are usually displayed won't be unless the code is added by Vain (and since this is just a test (for now) we probably won't be getting them added).

Hier - looks like they're fitted to a grid with fixed height and width values, so the smilie is shrunk to fit the grid. I guess if the specific values were removed from the code, it'd make the table stretch to fit the smilies, not the other way round.

Edit - The font size is bigger on any name/title which has colour and glow. Also, the font colour doesn't show up on the shop buttons. Since the shop page appears to use the theme without needing a specific page of theme code, I'm guessing any change to the buttons themselves would show on both themes, so the shop page'll need a small rewrite to use button types from whichever theme is being used, rather than what appear atm to just be the default buttons for my browser.

Edit - having trouble with the shop URL - it won't work cos there's a space in it. I'll post it again here. It'll show up as a link, but ignore that (it misses the last word) and just highlight the text, then copy and paste:

I explained the lack of mods in my last post, Hier Foul.

Ahhh, didn't realize I was looking at the test version last time.

Tidbit for those (like myself) that want to change their effects while still looking at the new theme - go to profile, choose subsilver theme, go to the shop. in a new window (keeping the shop window up), go back to profile, select the new theme, and you're done. You can make all your effect changes in the shop window, look around the site with the other.

As far as feedback, pretty much everything Murrin said. I like the little shouting guy emoticon, though. It almost looks like he's swearing in Arabic.

I do object to the title of the theme, though. Reminds me of Hank Azaria's costume in Mystery Men. Not a single scrap of blue on it.

Nifty buttons. I also like the "last post" icon on the right side of the thread listing.

Ok.....after an hour cruising the Watch with the new profile, I have to say....I have a headache. :? I think the colors are just a little too intense. If they were lighter, maybe with a gradient, or pearlescent effect....I think I could get used to it, but as it is.....it's just a little strong for my blood.

I do like the buttons though. And the last post icons! I never noticed those until Syl said something, but those things are cool! 8)

I think my biggest problem is that I don't associate Covenant with any of these colours.

I miss the days when the banner at the top used to change, but now it's just the same thing. Who is the chick with the white face, too?! She's kinda outta place. And what are TC and Linden looking at? Is that the moon? They going to get in a moon buggy or something?

The new colour scheme looks fine to me. I agree with Furls that it makes the Watch feel more "Landish." No real issues to bring up. The scroll bar is a little hard to see, that's all. Everything else looks delicious. I really like how all the avatars, name/title colours and type stand out so nicely. I'm enjoying it. :D

I normally use low lighting when I'm at my computer, that's why the new scheme is a boon to me. Its rich brown/orange palette is more soothing to my eyes than the original style's, which looks glaring under low light conditions. Of course, proponents of the "classic" Watch scheme feel just the opposite, and I respect that view, too.

It took so long to get over my headache last time, that only now have I nerved myself to try it again.

Here are my observations:
I can't see anything in the left-hand column of the first four forums. All the way down in the Scatterlings forum, there is something. That column shows the box with the kind of X that indicates a link to a graphic is broken.

The scroll button is invisible.

The list of members who have been here in the last 48 hours is gone.

I don't see the chat room. No access and it's not on the menu.

In the threads: For the Joined, Posts, and Location info, I have to select them to read them. Same with any title that doesn't have color effects.

I think there should be some color difference or box outline, setting Quotes off from the text of the person currently posting.

After 10 minutes of testing, I have eyestrain again. This is my last visit to the Halloween color scheme.

I strongly urge that you advertise, for the benefit of visitors, that they can choose a different color option when they visit. Otherwise a sizeable percentage will find it uncomfortable to stay long enough to join.

Joy, what browser do you use? I think these things also depend on the kind of browser. For instance, I use Mozilla Firebird, and the scrollbar, the location etc. infos are perfectly visible for me, and the quotes have a nice grey background to them. On the other hand, I never see those colour and glow effects you people all seem to be fond of; perhaps they are IE only? I never use Internet Explorer, avoid it from far wawy if I can help.

My browser is IE. -- Thing is, a lot of other people use it, too, not just me.

Well the real point is that new themes should be checked at least on the most popular browsers to see how they look - IE, Mozilla, Opera the minimum.

Agrred. I only useIE and it's most likely the only one I will ever use but I know that some of the things just don't work for other browsers.

In addition, it also depepnds on your screen resolution, colours chosen, etc etc so the more commentary I get, the better.

Those of you who have alternative colour suggestions can just post the colour code here and I can test it out

And yes, you will find most of the extra bits missing but as Murrin has helpfully pointed out, it's because I'm not changing anything yet until the colours work nicely :)

Oh and Lord Foul, don't go changing the topic title again :x I had a devil of a time finding this thread again ;)

Vain,

have you considered the Chronicles theme for phpBB? It's brownish, nice, and readable, and with some tweaking you could customize it to be unique.

Here is a site
to see how it looks.

And here is a link for downloading.

If at all possible, I'd rather NOT have the Watch be a copy of a David Eddings forum, thanks. SRD fans deserve better than that.

Edited version of earlier post. The name "Eddings" tends to provoke, er, destructive emotions in me. But I've calmed down, and retained my Oath of Peace.
