The Lord Of The RING!!!!!!

Post by arwenavery »

ok , ive just finished the two towers....i havent read the return of the king yet, just to warn people so if anyone knows something important DONT TELL ME FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS!!

now samwise gamgee has the ring , and is wearing it. i have just one ( or two as it turns out!!)problem,

If he is wearing it how has sauron not sense its power within his own walls ( the idea that all his attention is focused on the battle commencement doesnt really cut it!!) ,

also , would orcs not smell him??? he stands quite close to them and as far as ive been able to figure it out orc can smell there prey!! am i wrong??

and one more question , is it true that i can buy a dictionary of elvish , dwarvish and the old tounge of middle earth??

Dictionary

Post by Bannor »

Here is one place to find an Elvish dictionary on the web:
asp.angelcities.com/zombie_m[1].mid
"Do you have a wife?"
"At one time."
"What happened to her?"
"She has been dead."
"How long ago did she die?"
"Two thousand years."

I didn't vote cause I don't think any of them could--TC would kick all of their asses--but, of course he'd probably have 2 b forced 2 do it-against all his protests...

Here are some online resources if you are interested:

The Elvish Linguistic Fellowship (aka E.L.F.) for detailed discussions about the Quenya and Sindarin used in "The Movie".

For a Quenya/English dictionary try www.rialian.com/quenya-english.htm

For a Sindarin/English dictionary try www.geocities.com/almacq.geo/sindar/sdintro.html

As far as I know, neither Tolkien nor his son ever published an elvish dictionary. The ones I have seen were created by fans based on the elvish words found in Tolkien's writings. Because Tolkien invented the language and then invented the story, there is lots of source material for a dictionary.

Elvish Dictionary

Post by Bannor »

Well, there are the little sections at the end of Return of the King that show something about Elvish and Dwarf writing. My favorite source is Ruth Noel's The Languages of Middle Earth. She also wrote The Mythology of Middle Earth, and she was nice enough to send me an autographed sticker for her book.

You know Bannor I could never log back onto your site after posting there that once .. :? not really sure why that was .. .. unless you guys got a 'no Skyweir's allowed' ruling there or something??

Wouldn't entirely blame u if you had ..  lol

and any of the above could kick TC's ass, roll him into a ball and stick him up there jumpers .. and if they couldnt I'd be totally surprised ..

I mean the man could barely hold himself upright .. infact if it wasnt for Foamfollower and the other giants and even Bannor I dont think he would have made it through the first chronicles ..

Covenant Dependence

Post by Bannor »

I agree, Skyweir, it was because of the Giants, Bannor, Atarian, and probably more that kept Covenant alive in The Land.
Don't know about your problems with gapofrohan.com: I certainly miss your input, and I don't know what might be keeping you from logging on, but I will go and check posthaste (Always loved that term). I have not seen a post in there for 2 days, but I don't know if that is because people can't log in or not, so I will have to really delve into that. Thanks for the info...and away I go (with the speed of a sandgorgon!)!

just worth a thought!

Post by arwenavery »

has anyone read the silmarillion..if so , in it , it describes a place called falas ...if anyones interested the word phalas means ( im sorry to say this on such a site ..please excuse me!) an erect penis

the phalus was a popular symbol in ancient greece of the powerful god dionysus who in a way reminds me of melkor, is there any chance ( and by know i presume youve all recognised my ability to find links in the strangest of places)
that tolkien using various mythological and historical basis for his story that he was representing a different side of not only melkor but of all the valar and illuvatar??

"Raised it?" "Brought it up yourself?" LOL Sometimes I think it better to not try and defend oneself: it always seems to backfire!

Nom

Post by Bannor »

I wonder if any person reading The Silmarillion read Nom's name out loud and got a visitation. Does anyone ever fear (even slightly) saying NOM out loud? :)

Actually, it's NÓM and LINDON

and there is no Anduin in TCTC, is there? OK, it's similar to Andelain, but Anduin is a river
