Yes, I agree the movie remains a beautiful artistic achievement. Its look remains unique in film history, I think. I doubt there is another movie out there that you could point to and say, Hey--that looks just like Tron! Nope, Tron was just a crazy dream that got lucky enough to be turned into a motion picture.

I remember being a little miffed when Gandhi won the Best Costume Oscar over Tron. I was also miffed that Gandhi won Best Picture over E.T. The Extraterrestrial, but that's another story.

Yes, welcome back Fist!!

And, totally off topic, I was thrilled when "Gandhi" and Ben Kingsley won Oscars. Kingsley's performance is still in a place by itself, IMO.

Back on topic, I agree about David Warner in Tron, he is an outstanding character actor who helped the movie a lot. He's also part of the reason Malcolm McDowell/Mary Steenburgen's Time After Time was so good. The Omen, too, for that matter.

Not a fan of E.T. myself, so I'm pretty happy about that one. :D

Well, it was a silly mental association thing, F&F. I was aware Gandhi was a favorite film of yours...never mind.

Yes! Time After Time is a great film! Warner makes an excellent Jack the Ripper.

I thought Mary Steenbergen was a charmer in it.

But the whole thing ... remember that San Francisco night scene around the time of the 4th(?) victim? The one who was found in the fountain? Those lights stand out in my memory along with some of the night scenes in Martin Scorsese's Bringing Out the Dead (Nicolas Cage).

Somehow I seem to have strayed off topic again. My apologies, maybe I'd better say goodnight.
