You're welcome, Sarge. And thanks for the offer, but I think I'll back quietly away from this guy, cute as he is...sgt.null wrote:thank you ali!

i saved a skunk once. was 10ish in the am at the trusty camp. i/m came in to say a skunk was in the slop can. went out, he was up to his neck in slop. so i grabbed a broom and put it in the slop with him. he crawled out exhausted. he rested a wee bit and scurried off.
the next am i was rounding up the i/m's and ran into the skunk on the sidewalk. he got up on two legs and looked at me for a few minutes, and then he wandered off.

Aww. I saved some baby raccoons when I was a kid. That is, a coon family had been raiding a trash can. I was out at night and saw a coon going in and out and in and out and making worried sounds. Finally she slunk away, with many regretful backward glances, and (I swear) imploring looks at me. I went to the 55 gallon drum and looked in with the flashlight and several baby coons were looking back at me. I was only 12 so I ran away, but a minute later went back and tipped the can and ran away again, and turned around to see a parade of coon kits running out. But the scrabbling sound continued, one had got its head stuck in the rusted-out hole in the bottom, so I had to pry the rusty edge away so it could escape too. I felt pretty heroic...

What a shame, Sarge. We've just started pulling the first cruciferous vegetables from our back garden - sweetheart cabbage. Looking at the list of things you can't eat, there doesn't seem to be much left that you could eat.
