Had an enjoyable and exciting time welcoming Mr. Brady and the Pats to Seattle. With all due respect to Sarge and Julie (who are deeply devoted fans of him), I acknowledge he is a great QB...but I really like how the day turned out.
Unlike the Packer game they had no business winning, the Seahawks earned this one.

especially since I like the raiders...I really wish they would be good again... and I'm pretty sure I heard an analyst recently say that statistically "iced" kickers actually have a higher, not a lower, success.sgt.null wrote:freaking Raiders give the game to the Falcons because of the idiotic practice of "icing" the kicker. ATlanta missed the fg, but idiot Raider's coach had called a time out.
how many times must this happen for coaches to stop doing it?
I'm torn right now as to whether GB started getting back to form, or the Texans just screwed up too much...or a bit of both...I'll decide later which mattered more.

That game was Atlanta's to lose. Lots of Raiders fans were at the game. The guy next to me was a blast even though he was a Raiders fan. He was talking smack and then he looked over and said, "Hey, I'm just here to have fun, we were expected to lose, but if the Falcons lose, you guys are going home mad!"
The Falcons have not played 'that' poorly all season. Ryan threw three picks in the first 5 plays. If the Raiders had been a better team, when the first quarter came to a close it would have been 21 to 0 Raiders.
As it stands today, Atlanta will go the playoff again, perhaps as Division winners and again, be one and out in the playoffs. They need to take this bye week and re-group on both sides of the ball. They need to get their crap together and be consistent. Against the Broncos, and Chargers and even the Panthers, they looked pretty good. The last two games have just been a mess.
Everyone calling for Vick's head. Imagine, 13 of the team's 17 TO. The backup can't even improve on that? Defense looks ok, shutting down Detroit, last week Pitt. Until the end of course, and allow the team to comeback.
NE/Sea was a good game. I think Seattle's defense is nasty, and solid running game, and maybe Wilson will be decent. Looked great on some of those throws.
Niners have a complex against Giants now.

Well it's official NFL owners have unanimously confirmed Jimmy Haslam as the new owner of the Cleveland Browns, and as expected Mike Holmgren is out as team president. It's not clear when, but former Eagles front office man Joe Banner will take over the Big Shows duties in Berea. Nothing unexpected here, all that remains to be seen is whether my speculation that the next head coach of the Browns will be Andy Reid is accurate.

Yea, I'm conflicted about Reid. A lot of Philly fans don't like him b/c he couldn't win championship, and he's certainly made some bad decisions over the years (the biggest in my mind is not getting dominant receiver all those years. Only TO, the year they made it to Super Bowl).
But, he's won a ton of games and they never seem to be on bottom half of league. Well, one year McNabb missed most of season, and this year maybe b/c Vick has just lost it. But who could've foreseen Vick bottoming out so quickly?
I feel like they'll fire him, and it will be awhile until someone can come close to winning as many games as he did.

Horrible roughing the passer call against the Colts
Rookie QB vs. Rookie QB.
No picks from either , yet.
Colts are holding up better against the run than I expected.
Horrible PI called against Cribbs
Browns screw up an extra point.
Worst officials this season, hopefully the Browns can overcome . Nope
Blatant pass interference ignored.

Yeah I watched that too. The 'Skins' are a better team than their current win/loss ratio shows. But consider they have a young team, rookie QB, etc etc.... RGIII, if he will be more careful with how he runs so he can stay healthy, is going to be a great QB. I really felt like this was lost by the coach for not taking more time off the clock. He was hiking the ball with 10+seconds left to hike.... A better coached team would have had the QB waiting until the last 3 to 4 sec to hike to eat an additional 30 to 60 seconds off the clock. I knew when there was another 1:39 left on the clock that there was a very good chance that the Giants would score. Eli is second in the league for last min comebacks over his career. OF course the 'skins' had one more chance and a fumble cost them that chance.
The Pats/Jets game was another really good one. The Jets are playing crazy inconsistent. One game will have them lose by 40 points against a team they should win against, and the next will have them playing like a Playoff caliber team.

Saw the end of that Pats/Jets game. I think Belicheck is washed up. He's living on his rep. Brady's magic kept it from being another blown loss. Their last 5 losses (would've been 6) were blown 2nd half leads. Seems other teams adjust, and Pats are unable to. Both sides of the ball just forget how to play.
But, like Eli (even the Eagles score bunches in last 2 min of either half), it seems a league wide defensive problem in last 2 mins: you can assume team w/the ball will score. Especially if only a FG is needed. Not sure how this came about.

Pats always hang their heads and lose games the season after a Superbowl loss to the Giants. They went down to 5-3 in 2008 before bringing in an 11-5 season, and not making the playoffs. Now they're 4-3, so it's a bit worse, but it's safe to say they won't make the playoffs either. I have already written this season off.
Still, it may be a turning point that they salvaged that game. Maybe not. But maybe. I haven't seen Brady make a clutch last-minute score in a long time.

Just curious...did anyone predict/foresee the Vikings where they are?
I mean, I've always liked the team [primarily cuz a fave uncle of mine was a fan when I was a kid and so i happened to see some amazing Tarkenton stuff], and I liked what I saw personality and potential-wise from Ponder last season. But I only expected some growth and some upsetting of opponents occasionally, not the relatively consistent good-plus performances they've shown [IF I remember my own expectations accurately...sometimes a problem...]

No on the Vikings.
WF, don't write the season off yet. B/c, except the Texans, the AFC isn't looking particularly strong. And AFC East is completely up for grabs. Bills defense stinks, Dolphins are young and growing, but up and down as a result, and the Jets, well, who knows. Someone's got to win it.

True and its not how you start, its how you finish.
Giants season last year, they got to week 9, 6 - 2 with the bye.
They proceded to lose the next 5 out of 6 games leaving them 7 -7 then they won two, got the wildcard and went on to win the Superbowl.
That same year the Packers only lost one game in the regular season (15 - 1 season) and ended up losing to the Giants... 1 and out.
