The Cabin in the Woods

Post by [Syl] »

All in all, an interesting flick. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 90%, and it's at 7.6 on IMDB.

It's a meta horror movie, with more of a Scream feel than Tucker and Dale. Although, come to think of it, it does really stride the fence between the two, being not quite as funny as Tucker and Dale but not as suspenseful as Scream. I don't want to spoil it for anybody, but I do feel they could have done a little more with the premise. And strangely, I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't use the obvious set-up (mild spoiler)—
Spoiler
to leave room for a sequel, instead kind of spending their load at the end
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I finally saw this last night. If you have any desire to see this film (and you should), do not read anything about it.

Suffice it to say that it's a clever film, and I like clever. One of the best movies I've seen this year.

I'll second that.

My wife, who has a seriously dark funny bone, could be heard laughing throughout the house. I don't watch much horror, but that kind of laughter is persuasive.

I loved Tucker and Dale. If this is similar, I'll have to put it on my to-see list.

I finally saw it, it was great. Seldom does a movie have me guessing the whole way through till the end and the end didn't disappoint me either.

It was decent. T&D was better. The interplay between reality/fantasy then back to fantasy-as-reality was a nice twist. Gives you reasons for hope, then reasons for horror, then repeats.
