The Great Infidel

Post by Dromond »

Robert Ingersoll...so he was called by those who admired him and by those who hated him.

And essays like this are why...

I hope you read this and other writings by this giant.

Ships have ears? I knew walls had them, but ships?

I'm afraid there's no denying

Thanks, Foul.

The fact of the matter is that the link above is a link to an online library that someone built that features (mostly hard to find) writings by many brilliant minds, that the christian majority would rather didn't exist.

Yeah, I guess it takes a lot of time on your hands to build a library.

But too much whiskey probably means it won't be a very stimulating one.

I would like for anyone to read, from start to finish, the essay I linked to above, and tell me they're not mentally and emotionally stimulated. (And why)

Man, that made my eyes tired. Worth it, though I know I've seen pieces of it before somewhere.

The only problem is that those who will listen are those who don't need to. Some will only read far enough to find something they can say, "A ha, this is wrong because..." nitpicking out one detail that to them nullifies the entire essay.

Others will just say that the fact that we don't understand is only indicative of our failure. That humans are too weak and stupid to really understand, which is why we have to have faith. Anything bad that happens is our fault for "rejecting jesus."

Yes, Syl, you're right. It's not gonna change any minds.

The man's writings are spectacular, however. Back in his day christian leaders read his words avidly and fearfully, hoping to find something to discredit him and his beliefs.
