Frostheart, I hope you don't mind if I grabbed the last pic and put it right on my desktop. I did live in Vermont for a number of years and kind of miss a crisp day once in a while... don't really miss the early sunsets though. Too much dark for me. Although there were great things to be seen at night in the crystal winter skies, comets, auroras, lunar eclipses and such.

The semester is kind of winding down and I find that without the relentless pressure of writing curriculum as I go, I'm not sure what to do with myself at times. I need to go to the Library and top off my 50 books list! :)

Today is my 24th anniversary!!!

Poor Kate (you know, her that's married to Wills, the Duchess of Cambridge) has been admitted to hospital with bad morning sickness!!!! 12 weeks gone. I didn't even know she was expecting!

Neither did anybody else, I gather, 'til she started the morning sickness thing.

I am relieved to now have all versions of the latest book on sale. I've got some promotional stuff coming up this month, but otherwise I'm ready for a few weeks off.

Oh! Also, today I had lunch with a college friend who I haven't seen in 20+ years. She's in DC for a quick visit and happened to mention on Facebook that she was going to spend the afternoon at the White House holiday open house. I let her know that my office is two blocks from there. It was good to catch up. :)

Progress report: Back room painted.. (My phone is terrible at taking pictures in small spaces. Couldn't get the wall in frame.)

Hallway also painted. Next is the hard job, the bedroom.

Agreed. But you reminded me of this. :D

Physically tired and emotionally drained. I want to stand up on a soapbox and shake my fist at all the people who want to treat my husband like he is a machine they can just plug in and use whatever way they want. They'll call him and be like, "Come and organize our children's camp, print up 1,000 devotionals for all the kids and staff, bring money for feeding everyone and your van to haul us everywhere and your equipment and generator and don't forget jerry cans full of fuel for the generators, and when we're done carry me and my family to your house and let me stay there for a few days because I'm going to need a vacation, and then you can give me transport money to go home." Oh, and his boss calls from America and says "Set your own plans for tomorrow aside because you're going to spend half the day in the bank getting money for my employees and purchasing supplies for my empty house and don't forget to haul the garbage out and make sure my dogs are fed and my vehicle is still running because I won't be there for another several months but just do my job while I'm away." And then our pastor calls and says "My 6-week annual leave is done but I didn't get any rest so please fill in at the church for me for another couple weeks (at least he says please and thank-you)".

Yes, he does know how to say no, but people just ask more and more and I feel like stealing his phone one night and blocking a whole list of numbers....

Thus endeth my rant for today.

It sounds like various people haven't considered that they ought to figure out how to do things some other way.

People want great things to happen and they don't realize there is a cost to doing anything big. *long deleted snark about that*

Oh well. I just drove across town and found petrol, and didn't even have to wait more than 5 minutes. Yeah, I paid extra, but my time is worth something too. 8)

Murrin, I love the room color. :)

Phantasm -- awwww, cute puppy!

Deer -- I'm with you. Block those numbers and let all those people find someone else to do their stuff for 'em. :x (I know it's probably not politically viable, but still....)

IntuItOne: Welcome! :)

Something interesting happened. There is a guy who lives across the street as the gate-man for a block of flats. We also pay him to do odd jobs for us, washing cars, etc. He came over this morning and said about 3am, our dog Lily was barking her head off (she has a very ferocious bark) so he woke up and came out and found 3 men carrying a generator down the road. He shouted and they dropped the generator and ran away. He carried the generator inside his compound but doesn't yet know who it belongs to. My hub was concerned that the guy would be accused of stealing it himself (that would be typical!). Our neighborhood has had a rash of thefts lately, but luckily for us, Lily has a reputation as a very bad dog. (No one needs to know what a marshmallow she really is.)

That reminds me of this joke: An agnostic dyslexic insomniac lay awake at night wondering if there really was a dog. :)

We have a dog like that; soft as muck but makes a hell of a noise if anyone so much as walks past the house. :)

Had a lovely birthday. The girls came over last night. Magickmaker made dinner *and* a cake; Batty gave me a chiffon shawl/scarf that I will wear at some point, maybe to a holiday event next week; and then we just hung out for the evening. Batty's staying 'til tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, my attorneys gave me flowers, and the two partners I work for took me out to lunch, which was actually a lot of fun.
