Returning Home . . .

Returning Home . . .
Recently, due to medical issues I was . . . "forced" is not the right word and "privileged" would carry the wrong connotation . . . I returned home. This is where both my family and . . . the ghosts of my memory live.
My young niece . . . who I barely know as I was never the type of uncle to be of much use had a dance recital that I attended out of the obligation of gulit. Sitting in that smelly high school gym under lights to unreliable to trust reality . . . I pulled out my Nook and returned to AATE . . . and . . .
In 1978ish . . . I was a young man attending a high school, but unlike the majority who had dressed out I was sitting in the bleachers refusing to participate. Instead, I was reading The Illearth War.
At some point I noticed someone else sitting off in the distance with a more than familiar book . . . Lord Foul's Bane.
That was a long time ago and that friendship . . . it was a long time ago.
But here I am now sitting in the same room with not exactly a book, but Donaldson's words and Covenant and the rest . . .
I'm glad to find a community out here who keeps the lore and legend of these books alive. No other work has had such a profound influence on my world view and . . . we must now all face The Last Dark.
. . .
There is a song by Wilco called "I am trying to break your heart". Good luck with that. I've been reading Covenant all my life!

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain
Where are we going...and... WHY are we in a handbasket?

Welcome to the Watch, Bob.
May you thrive here and contribute...growing less Ornery, if you desire to make that change.

You actually seem to have a "voice" similar to that of the person who (in a sense) introduced me to the Chrons!
Welcome.
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
