Hi,

I'm a long term fan of SRD's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, having first read them back in the 1980's, while at school. I've been meaning to reread them for the third time for the last few years but never quite got to it.

Recently I noticed the First Chronicles were available on Kindle so, as I travel quite a bit, thought I could start reading them again in the wait times that travel brings us all...electronically.

Living in NZ that hasn't proved as simple as I expected...

Apparently I am allowed to buy the First and Last Chronicles but am not allowed to buy the Second Chronicles...sigh...after numerous emails to the publishers, Random House it seems my only options are to 1) go back to my paper versions (not convenient with today's mini hand luggage allowances) or 2) obtain an ebook version from non-official channels

Both options don't give either the publishers, or more importantly SRD, any of my hard-earned cash so seem crazy to me.

So I'm new to the forum, posted a question hopefully in the appropriate place, to see if anyone can help. In the meantime I'm an Unbeliever - thinking this whole online world, while it appears more colourful, lively and promising - is in fact just a dream from which I'll be forced to wake back up in to the black, white and grey of the paperback world...

I only just received a kindle for Christmas and haven't downloaded any SD books yet, but it will be a relief not to have to hold that very large compendium of the first 3 Chrons in bed!

Hope to see you posting around the place. Don't worry, no one bites; apart from Lord Foul obviously.

I try to give my hard-earned cash to author/publisher when I can but if I've made every effort to make a legitimate e-acquisition and been thwarted by international rights bollocks, then I 'might', shhhh..., rationalise putting some boots on my legs! If it's a case of something not being released yet, as with the 2nd C's, you could always visit the dark market now and buy it properly when it comes out, ensuring SRD sees coin for his work?

Welcome to the Watch Macker. There are a couple of other Kiwi's skulking around somewhere.

Personally, I prefer paper books, although I concede the convenience.

Of course I could never officially condone Shaun's eminently sensible and and fair suggestion, even though you have done much more than most would bother to in an attempt to obtain what you're looking for through every available channel...

I hope you stick around and join in. There's something for everybody here.

Really, who are you using as a fine sample of sophisticated language? There are role models so much better in the fine art of weaving words and phrases

How do you feel about going with one of these options and just buying extra paperbacks to compensate?
