Stargate Universe Cancelled
S2 second half will air in Spring, but, it won't be renewed for S3.
Too bad, it's actually been pretty decent in S2, and S2 first half left me anxious for the second half to return

That sucks. SGU had its flaws (Col. Young, Chloe/Scott), but it was far better than Atlantis (faint praise, I know). I blame the guy they also brought on Heroes before it got canceled.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I'm a late comer to SGU mainly due to Netflix.
I am one who thought the original film was okay, at least it featured actors I generally like, Kurt Russel and James Spader in particular.
So then I see that they are developing SG-1 and when I eventually see a couple of episodes its weak. Acting seems iffy, stories don't seem to engage me and the special effects were just borderline bad. IMHO of course.
So then I hear about Stargate Atlantis and I see a couple of episodes and though it seems a little better it reminds me of SG-1 so I don't stay for the party.
Then I see that SyFy created SGU and I assume its more typical Stargate television so I ignore it.
Now I'm pretty upset. I've watched 25 of the 40 episodes of SGU and the damn thing is pretty good. There are aspects that closely resemble BSG in the tone and characterizations. The cast is pretty good and features one of my favorite actors, Robert Carlyle. I'm really enjoying the show but I already know its a limited engagement with it having already been cancelled. Why do I keep doing this to myself?
I began watching Firefly after it was gone and was depressed when I watched the final episode.
Same thing with BSG. It had been off the air for over a year before I started watching and getting hooked.
Oh well. I've got 15 episodes left to enjoy. I guess I should be thankful I have that.

The good news, Tom, is that the closer you get to the end, the better the episodes get. Unfortunately, that's also the bad news.

I'm still enraged about this. Fucking fanboys! If they called the show Space Craft Destiny, and removed the Star Gate elements, it would be the biggest thing ever.
But nooooooo, it doesn't stick with the hole filled plot of SG1, wah wah *choke*.
I loved how they had like 20 or more scientists on the show, and still could barely wipe their asses. Not the terrible cliche that happens on so many shows, including SG1 where somehow this person is a master of every academic field known to the universe, simultaneously (talking more about that pigtails girl on NCIS or CSI or PSQI or whatever) although the first few seasons of SG1 are just a terrible strain on the suspension of disbelief. Oh Hi I am a aeronautical engineer (or whatever the heck Sam is to begin with) but sure, I can take this crazy ass panel of glowing crystals that i've never seen before and re-wire the security system to open this door.
!@#$^%&*(I*#$@!~@#$&*(*^%⁄ @#$YW$%U&J@$O Universe was actually a legitimately good show that got screwed and cancelled because of brand loyalty and fanboy solidarity, and fear of change. So frustrating.
That all being said, I do like SG1 quite a bit, it's campy and fun.
Also, super necrobump. Badaboom.

Nah, my problem with SGU had nothing to do with not being "Stargate" enough. It was the characters. They were all horrible throughout S1almost every one of them damaged the show in my opinion, and I wanted to see all of them shoved out an airlock. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate them because they were bad people (I love many characters you are supposed to hate [Bester in B5, Scorpius in Farscape, Kai Winn in DS9, etc])
By the second season, the characters finally started finding themselves and I was able to start getting enjoyment out of the show. By the time it ended, I was truly enjoying it, and sorry to see it cancelled, but season 1 was awful. I'm going to rewatch soon, to see if I can find any enjoyment in it marathon-style, but, first run, waiting each week for the new episode was not a very enjoyable experience for S1, I didn't find any enjoyment in more than 1 or 2 episodes

I actually will readily agree with that.
I had no idea there was a stargate series running, and I started catching reruns/the newest episodes of season 2. That is assuredly what all my opinions are based on. I think the first episode I saw was the one where Chloe(?) keeps having nightmares of drowning and such. The next episode I saw was also not the next episode in the series. Ah, to be at the mercy of network tv.
I also just really really really hate cliches in general, and that magical genius trope in the extreme.
Despite his work on black hole theories, Stephen Hawking probably can't perform a damned appendectomy. (I mean skill set-wise not some nasty jab at his handicap).

I know what an analogy is! It's like a thought...with another thought's hat on...?
