Hang on a little to that thought Ur-Vile while we talk to SRD about non-cover images.

Right.. scanning now.. just doing front and backs as i assume that's all you'd use presentation wise? If not can scan the whole thing inc. flyleaves and merge.. ?

Silly question: Isn't it possible to use the cover pics from amazon or other online bookshops? I could imagine they look better than something that's been scanned or photographed by people at their homes. Or is this absolutely impossible and forbidden, copyright and all?

I believe it's possible--but let me check with the site team, jic. As far as I know different publishers and authors have the copyright, not Amazon. Hold off on this until I can get confirmation. If you do this a good precaution is to download and convert to your jpg/gif-in case they have a "hot-link" trigger. But hang on and I'll get you a direct answer.

That'd work for most of the current editions.. but i imagine the call went out to try and build a graphical back catalogue of previous artworks..

Danlo, I sent the images of Drool (and the opp page) to John almost a week ago. Hopefully SRD will allow their use.

Well the official word is that SRD would rather you send your own scans and not Amazon or other bookseller covers. And Ur-Vile I know you did--and that's cool--you never listen to me anyway... U're as bad as my students! :x  :( :? 8) :) :D  (according to a rumor I've just heard at least 3 of the 4 Axbrewder (Man Who...) covers r now up on the site...**checking it out now** :D )

Does this mean you've got me on detention again, Mr Danlo? ;)

Thanks for the reply, danlo. The problem is, I don't have a scanner and none of my friends has one. But I'll try to find another way. This project is just too exciting...

There are several book covers posted on the official site now - go to "background" and "publications", then click on one of the titles. So far Tor and Ballantine/DelRey have given permission to use the art. If you have any scans that are better than the ones on the site (or missing from the site from those publishers, as are many of the back covers from the paperbacks), please send them to johnf@eccker.org. Try to send them as 500 pixels high, so when any blemishes are repaired and the image reduced in size, the repairs will blend in better.

If you send any other scans, please include publishing/date/cover artist info, so proper credit can be posted on the site. If emailing pictures is difficult, email johnf@eccker.org to get an ftp password.

Cheers!

BTW - Steve started answering some of the questions that have been submitted in the system. As he answers, they automatically appear in the "gradual interview" - which is in the "from the author" section.

Way cool!! I see that Hierachy's was the first one. :) :)

I looked at the cover section, and I have the orginal HB's of the First Chronicles (looks like you already have the ones for the Second). I am planning on getting a scanner really soon, and I will scan in those jacket covers. :)

The latest on Cover Art from UMCP (official website team) central:

Steve finally has permission from the remaining publishers that have the books in print in the US. He said we should go ahead and post the original Holt hardcovers, and any international printings as well (since we're only helping them sell books, after all). Brian (Kaseryn) has sent us a *bunch* of covers, so we'll have plenty of catch-up work for a while.

The pics on the Watch have been very helpful, Jay - thanks!

we'll let you guys know when we're running out of material to post, and then people can check out the site to see if they have anything that isn't already there. Just need to make sure we get publisher/date/artist info for everything so we can give proper credit.
