I watched at least part of an EarthSea Mini on SyFy Channel and it looked interesting, though never read it/them (Yes, I know, SyFy's version was pretty well hated). But, let's not get carried away. Considering All of Pern, More Doctor Who that will be building up, The Last Dark and the first couple Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mysteries, I'm probably well booked for a good year (Plus, I also bought The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit. I returned them, because I decided to get Pern instead, but, the files are on my computer, and the guy at Audible said I can still listen to them, they wouldn't stop working because I returned them, so, at some point I may get around to them). But, when I run outta stuff, I'll consider Earthsea.

With good reason.

But yeah. Just be sure to put Earthsea, and I mean the whole series, in your TBR pile somewhere.

I haven't read any Pern, so Menolly would know whether you should put Earthsea above them. I suspect she would say not. Heh. I don't know what the Alphabet Mysteries are, but I'd probably put Earthsea above them. And I'd put the SyFy mini of Earthsea above The Last Dark.

close to 1/3 of the way through the DragonFlight, the world seems to be developing nicely. I'm a little confused about the exact meaning of "Weyr" and all the position titles that use it, as well as a little confused about the Political Hierarchy. Is there a Glossary around somewhere? (Some Weyr

)

The Kinsey Milhone Alphabet Mysteries are written by Sue Grafton, about a female Private Eye, and the books go in Alphabet order A is for Alibi, B is for Burglar... I was loaned P is for Peril a few years ago, and enjoyed it, so decided to get a couple more for something a bit different from Fantasy and Doctor Who. Yea, they're not on the top of my list, but, the first one I listened to was pretty fun, so I look forward to listening to them at some point

As far as The Last Dark goes, surprised you don't want to just get it over with

On a second and third read/listen, I've enjoyed the Final Chronicles more than the first time through the first two books (Though I didn't hate them to start with, like some people)

I'm not only not getting it over with, I'm not reading the last two books at all. I even donated RotE and FR to the used bookstore.

Have you read Temeraire*, Menolly? I think you might like it.

*Called His Majesty's Dragon in the US, for some reason, although as far as I can recall the current King was never mentioned once in the book.

I would hope Menolly would do so. I've had several changes of opinion on the ranking of the Pern books.
But they always rate above Earthsea. Which is a twist, cuz I love me almost all other Le Guin...a lot...way better writer than Anne M....I mean, have ya read the Crystal Singer series?...bleccch.

Hmm.

I might enjoy those. I know I liked Harry Kemelman's Rabbi Small series, which were titled after the days of the week.

Well, The Earthsea novels strike me as simpler stories, but the fundamental teachings reach inside me far deeper than Pern does, if that makes any sense. Pern grabs my attention and entertains me throughout; Earthsea is a pleasant read, but then causes me to think on the concepts far longer...

However, I discovered Pern when I was much younger, so a lot may simply be nostalgia for me as well.

I'm going through Christopher Paolini's Inheritance books.

I've done Eragon, Eldest and I'm about halfway through Brisingr.

I'm quite enjoying their 'easy read'-ness. I hadn't realised he was 15 years old when he started the first book in the series. He captures some of the life politics quite nicely.

I know it gets panned quite a bit, but, I really enjoy the Eragon Series, I think it's well rounded and throughout the 4 books does a good job of tieing things up nicely and I enjoy the Dragon/Rider relationship, the different races and the characters we get to know. Although there's a few things I would've liked to see expanded upon more (just who and what the Hell is Angela?) I don't think there's anything really major left hanging (Other than a sort of Cliff Hanging ending)

I was reading "Arms-Commander," by Modessitt, about the female Arms-Commander (and second-in-command) of a tiny warrior nation run by women...
...trying to survive in a world where every other nation was run by men (with unchallenged oppression) for, iunno, thousands of years.

(But I seem to have misplaced the book on my trip.)

No, but I read a handful of pages in the first chapter or so and was like, "This does not sound like a fun, happy book for me!!"

I enjoyed the series.
But, I like the fact that a career could be made for a singer without a performance level voice, and enjoyed the story on top of it.

My first communication with Anne via email (which she replied to, that is) was regarding the end of that series. So, it has fond memories for me...
