Snowfarm

Post by lorin »

Has anyone here ever been to Snowfarm in Massachusetts? I just registered for a one week program and am wondering if anyone has ever gone.

I grew up about 20 miles from this place ... and have never heard of it. Sorry. I can tell you about the area though. Like, don't bother having a cell phone, there's no coverage there. And if you like Yankee Candle, you'll be set. Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Btw, did you go, or is it later in the year?

It sounds like a neat idea!

and my epic fail. I was trying to make a plate of glass cubes. Somehow, though, I like it.

Wow, what a beautiful place. You are so clever, Lorin. The glass work looks very professional (even the plate of glass cubes). Have you found a new vocation?
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

Wooooo!

I'm so happy for you, lorin!

That place is gorgeous, and I love the things you made. (I am drooling over the first piece you show... love the way the iridescent colored boxes are put together. And the one with the paths 'carved' into it is just so cool. And the one before it with metallics "raying out" from the center is lovely and fun.)

I'm sure you had loads of joy in your work.
I love that you are doing this!

Oooh, pretty. I like the glass cube plate. And the cabochons, they look like opals.

lorin, awesome! :D And you're not only one who likes the glass cube plate, I join Sorus in that :) Also I like the jewelry, the iridescent plate, the plate with little leaf-like parts... well, everything :D

A pity there's no place like this Snowfarm where I live. Reminds me of a few things I've made out of papier mache though :)

Thanks everyone! It makes me feel so good when you reply. :D I really enjoy this work but I am not good at it.....yet. I waste a lot of glass which is VERY VERY expensive. I am terrible at cutting. But I will get better.

Sarge - I thought of you and Julie when I was there. You always talk about New England and thought how much you would have enjoyed the fall weather. There were a lot of couples there taking all kinds of art classes. I thought you would enjoy the collage classes.

Meanwhile, over here, I had a bit of a "oh wow, that was clueless of me" moment...
lorin wrote:I really enjoy this work but I am not good at it.....yet. I waste a lot of glass which is VERY VERY expensive. I am terrible at cutting.
...Because my response to this was, "oh, wow, she had to cut the glass, too?"

How on earth did you do all the glass for that second piece (with the oranges and cyan/turquoise blues)? That's a lot of pieces with rather precise sizes... and with rounded edges?
You don't have any pictures of it before it was fired, do ya?

finished plate. It's hard to see the slope in the pic. This is one thick heavy plate. I'm happy with it.
