My Pet Project: Alternative History Story

Post by Lord Mhoram »

In my spare time ( spare time ) I often try to write stories, but these stories often end up as 2, or 3 page histories. For this forum, Ive decided to write a short alternative history story. For all those not familiar w/alternative history, it is just as it says, the history of the world as we know, in an alternative way. I read once a short alternative history story involving a Jew-less Nazi Europe in the 1980s; chilling, but well done.

I dont have the time right now to write it, but I thought Id let everyone know that it will be posted by the end of the week.

Yes, we most certainly do!

Mhoram, do you know the books called What If? and What If 2? I've tried reading them and they're pretty cool, but my Bulldog keeps stealing them and hiding them from me!

Alternative histories - I remember seeing one particular episode of the Twilight Zone showed a Nazi dominated world.

like Sliders before it began to suck
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.โ€

Sliders was great. So too was that one where he kept leaping into other people.....and solving their problems. They almost always tend to suck after a while though :(

... sad but true! :shifty: :-|

Star Trek has had a good innings .. but even after a while you see a pattern emerging ;) a repetition of good ideas that work!

.. and I just couldnt get into the new series; 'Enterprise' ..

love catching the old ones .. so clever .. just love 'em!

like if the transistor was never invented (think oldschool Philip K. Dick sci-fi) or if Hannibal had defeated Scipio?

Or if the Confederacy had disbanded its armies and sent thousands of guerrilla fighters into the countryside instead of surrendering at the end of the Civil War? (that's what Jefferson Davis wanted to do, BTW).
Or if the French had won at Agincourt?
Or if the Netherlands had not won their independence from Spain?
Stuff like that??

What if Napoleon had been executed as a Robespierreist in the Counter-Terror of 1794? (I believe he was briefly thrown in prison.)

Hmm I'm liking the idea about the Confederates fighting a guerilla war...must think about it! And re-read some history! :)
