I hate the ending to The Last Dark (no spoilers)

Post by tj4242 »

Until there is a TLD board, this will have to do. Just finished TLD and I did not like it at all. There were some interesting surprises but overall it left me feeling disappointed.

Anyone else feel that way?

You should know why it's still hidden. No need to be snarky.

tj4242, I've added you to the TLD forum. Please PM me if you have any trouble. You'll find several like minded opinions here, as well as differing ones.

The TLD forum is being kept hidden so that people who haven't read the TLD are not unintentionally spoilered by thread titles etc.

There are plenty of people here who love the 1st and 2nd Chrons, and also feel like you do about the LCs and are willing to express it. It's one of the great things about the Watch. There is also a core of people who really love the LCs, so there tends to be a nice balance between positive and negative responses.

Personally, I have not enjoyed the LCs, but since I had almost no expectations of TLD I actually enjoyed Part I because stuff happened and it had pace! What I have also found, now that the series is finished, is that I understand SRD's intent and so, find much of what he did in the series easier to accept. Now, none of this mitigates the poor writing, editing or pacing of the series, but, for me, it does mean that I no longer feel the need to only express disappointment. I can now be a bit more objective rather than responding as personally as I have up til this.

The ending seemed rushed, inconsequential, and irrelevant to the struggles, dreams and sacrifices of SRD's characters. It was not worthy of them. I did not enjoy it at all and am dissappointed. There were so many other possibilities. But it's SRD's universe and he may do what he wishes with it. I just hope he's paid nicely, he's certainly gone above and beyond for those of us who started with Lord Foul's Bane so many years ago...

I completely agree with Condign. That's why I hate the ending so much. It seemed rushed. Jeremiah suddenly gets really whiny and acts like a 10 year old.

Since SRD has said this is it, there were an inordinate number of loose ends that never got satisfactorilly answered, such as why certian characters remained alive, and why others never made a final appearance. TLD was nowhere near as clean an ending as White Gold Weilder or Power that Preserves. But, hey... it's SRD's world and I enjoyed my time in The Land over the past few decades.
I may not yet be as old as dirt, but dirt and I are starting to have an awful lot in common... SRD
