ur-Lord Thomas Covenant

Post by Mighara Sovmadhi »

Time, Covenant claims, is a Möbius strip. Now who in all the Land first held the title of "Lord" if not Lord Foul? Is this why Covenant is the ur-Lord, since at the end and new beginning of the self-looping Arch of Time he absorbed the Despiser into himself?

While we're on it, is the story of the Worm eating the stars and then going to sleep not so much a history as a prophecy?

I thought I read in one of the other posts that SRD had refered to the mobius strip' nature of time - did TC say this as well Mig? I'm just trying to absorb the idea. TC et al certainly seem to finish up as the Creator[s] and TC certainly acts as a 'cage' for the Despiser although not explicitly absorbing his nature. It all seems more a case of history repeating itself than an actual re-run of the same events. The paralells are there definitely but I'm not sure on the chronological apperarence of titles in the Land. Was the Despiser A-Jeroth before he was Lord Foul; Was A-Jeroth just a mythological name created by the Clave [no - can't have been because his mistresses turned up in SWWNN, sorry SWMNBN]

The 'prophesy' idea would tie in well with the mobius strip view in that prophesy and myth would become enextricably linked.

It seemed to me the authors comment on Time as a mobius strip,,was attached to the cause and effect idea... The effects of an event come back to the event..like ripples from a stone thrown in to a pond..the ripples eventually come back to where the stone splashed into the pond..The original event is then effected by these returning ripples.. effects to make New effects,,new ripples..a never ending mobius strip

Its a different way of perceiving Time..non linear. The subjectivity of Time has been a item of exploration thru-out TCoTC.

Foul 's imperfection got left in the Creators Creation..Lords didn't happen until much later..But the imperfection that became known as Lord Foul..was there from the start.
